UC Berkeley ATDP is looking for an instructor to teach Introduction to Engineering this summer. This class is for high students and is being held on the UC Berkeley campus.
About ATDP. The Academic Talent Development Program (ATDP) is UC Berkeley's summer program for high-achieving students from Kindergarten to completed grade 11. For over thirty-five years, ATDP has been offering challenging summer classes in a wide variety of disciplines. To learn more about the program, please visit ATDP’s website at ATDP.
About Introduction to Engineering. ATDP has lesson plans from a past class of Introduction to Engineering, which can serve as the basis for the upcoming class or be modified. There will be up to 20 students in the class. Teachers are paid through UC Berkeley's payroll department, and compensation will be $2600. Program dates: June 17 – July 26, 2019; Location: UC Berkeley campus
Introduction to Engineering
Class schedule: Tuesday & Thursday, 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Grade level requirement: For students completing Grade 7 or 8th grade
This course is designed to give students an overview of diverse engineering disciplines -- mechanical, electrical, and civil -- in order to find out what engineers actually do. Students will see the difference between "science" as the discovery of new knowledge and "engineering" as uses of that knowledge in new environments. Students will practice their own engineering skills, finding out how things work in the real world through various projects and hands-on activities. The course will emphasize creative and anlaytical problem-solving, hands-on building activities, design, and teamwork.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, duties include: holding office hours, assigning grades, writing student evaluations, advising students, attending faculty meetings, and preparing course materials. Teachers are also required to attend a Faculty-wide meeting in May 2019; SD instructors must attend the Student/Parent orientation in June 2019.
