PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
SEO Scholars provides motivated, low income public high school students with a rigorous out-of-school supplemental academic curriculum, college guidance and the leadership development necessary to gain admission to, and succeed at, competitive colleges and universities. SEO Scholars San Francisco is the first expansion region for this program and aims to replicate for Bay Area students the stellar outcomes that the program has delivered in New York City.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Program Assistant will assist in the coordination and delivery of after school and Saturday programming as well as support 9th grade Scholar recruitment efforts. Program Coordination includes, but is not limited to, printing and organizing materials for our academic program, collecting and reporting program-related data, direct service with youth and general program support. 9th grade Scholar recruitment includes, but is not limited to, tracking recruitment data, following up with potential candidates who are interested in applying to the program and assisting in recruitment presentations at high schools.

 

We are looking for a strong communicator and team member who enjoys working with youth and is interested in gaining experience working for a non-profit education organization. The role provides the opportunity to get to know an inspiring group of high school students participating in a rigorous, well-designed out of school program, and to learn from and grow with an exceptional team of instructors and program staff.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Support:

  • Prepare, organize, collect and copy academic materials for after school (Tues/Weds/Thurs) and Saturday programming
  • Work closely with program staff to identify and address the needs of our Scholars

Scholar Recruitment Support:

  • Deliver engaging and inspiring information sessions to freshmen in high schools and CBOs in San Francisco
  • Communicate with potential applicants by phone, email, and in-person to answer their questions and further encourage their interest
  • Encourage students who are a strong fit with the program to apply and assist them in completing their applications

Data Entry and Management:

  • Record and track all data associated with the recruitment process (e.g., student interest forms)
  • Enter and maintain student academic data, demographics and records, using SEO’s online data systems, including Salesforce (training provided). 
  • Collect, analyze and track program data using MS Excel.
  • Provide support on projects led by other SEO team members as necessary

Specific Job Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Demonstrated passion for closing the educational opportunity gap at the high school and college level for first-generation and low-income students
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and handle changing priorities 
  • Skilled in Excel, comfortable with numbers and raw data and skillful in transforming them into meaningful finished products
  • Experience in analysis and presentation of data
  • Familiarity with using online databases (e.g., Salesforce) desirable but not required
  • Comfortable working independently as well as under supervision
  • Must be able to work effectively with others and have good interpersonal skills
  • Bilingual Spanish/English or Cantonese/English is highly desirable

 

Education and Experience Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience working with middle or high school students is desirable
  • Experience in a fast-paced, dynamic start-up and/or entrepreneurial environment is highly desirable

 

Location: San Francisco

 

This is a non-exempt, hourly position.

 

Dates of Employment – September through June with possibility of extension through next summer. Tuesday through Saturday work schedule, approximately 40 hours per week.
