Team Overview
The Associate Director of Finance is a key member of the five-person finance team and reports to the Director of Finance. As a function, the finance team reports directly into the CEO and serves as a strategic internal consultancy on major decisions.
The objective of the finance team is to maximize student outcomes over the long-term through the efficient, effective, and sustainable allocation of financial resources. Our work is rooted in supporting leaders, who bring academic expertise and proximity to students, in making effective decisions. We operationalize “power to lead” by empowering leaders with high quality financial information and advising.
Position Responsibilities
Serve as key finance team leader
- Shape the multi-year vision and annual initiatives for the finance team
- Manage and grow an exceptional direct report. Work with this direct report to set and achieve ambitious goals
- Model and reinforce the team’s culture of continuous learning and shared voice through leadership of team meetings
- Identify and recommend opportunities to streamline processes and/or improve results
Serve as financial advisor
- Advise school leaders and operations managers on fiscal operating decisions and multiyear planning, and collaborate with them both in person and remotely to achieve financial sustainability goals
- Support the development of a sustainable $75M+ budget for the 2018-19 year and forward by developing prudent, and realistic forecasts
- Empower school and regional office leaders with tools, information and analyses to help them make thoughtful and impactful decisions
- Serve as a hands-on thought partner to the Special Education team on their spending decisions, communications, and multi-year expense projections
- Support regional leaders in setting compensation at the Regional Support Office and be a thought partner on school compensation
Lead strategic initiatives, including but not limited to
- Develop and execute on real estate financial strategy, including assessing the financial viability of new campus construction, monitor real estate financial health of the organization to ensure financial prudency and sustainability, cultivate relationships with lending community, complete short-term financing of new campus construction, and determine optimal timing for tax-exempt bond offering
- Lead research and implementation of scalable financial planning software solution, and lead change management process with budget managers across the organization

- Working knowledge of accounting, accounting software, and finance workflow solutions
Experience
- Bachelor's degree required, MBA preferred
- 6-8 years of work experience

Location and start date
The Associate Director of Finance will be based out of the Regional Support Office (RSO) in downtown Oakland (BART accessible). This position is available immediately.
