The MakerSpace will help to further enhance the school environment in that it celebrates an open ended culture of creativity, innovation, and experimentation; melding the diverse disciplines of math, science, art, craft, engineering, design, architecture and more. Using the engineering design process, the MakerSpace teacher will assist, support and encourage students as they learn new skills for developing ideas, experiencing success and failure, and making things in a highly collaborative setting.

The MakerSpace teacher will:

  • Help to develop appropriate and interesting curriculum for the elementary school student.  Maker activities will follow the science and engineering practices outlined in the NGSS and include multiple opportunities for English Learners to collaborate with their peers and develop their academic language.
  • Collaborate with TK-5 classroom teachers to coordinate MakerSpace experiences with classroom-based NGSS instruction and integrate cross-curricular lesson extensions that can be taken back to the classroom.
  • Participate in curriculum development within the school of assignment and on a district level.
  • Model, foster and inspire a growth mindset within the classroom.
  • Deliver instruction and guide TK-5 students while in the Makerspace.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with coordination ( Site Principal, District personnel ) as it relates to school group workshops in the MakerSpace including professional development, implementation and training staff.
  2. Coordinate with school site staff and outside partners to create MakerSpace related programming and develop the MakerSpace as a resource for STEAM learning.
  3. Research, develop and innovate maker activities
  4. Inventory and maintain all MakerSpace materials, tools and equipment, including hardware and software.
  5. Identify projects suitable for students TK-5.
  6. Develop MakerSpace curriculum for a growing and changing MakerSpace
  7. Work one on one with students or in groups to ideate, prototype and present projects.
  8. Maintain a safe and efficient learning environment
  9. Technical support of project documentation (video, photo, blog/vlog, digital portfolio,  social media)
  10. Lead students in time-management and project planning skills
  11. Enthusiasm and willingness to learn
  12. Host MakerSpace Family events


Qualifications

  1. Experience and/or strong interest in working with elementary school students
  2. Working knowledge of NGSS, ELD Standard and CCSS
  3. Skills with technology, engineering, design, science, art, and craft
  4. Knowledge of the engineering design process and growth mindset
  5. Strong classroom management skills
  6. Sincere motivation to work collaboratively with an energized, committed and diverse team
  7. Action oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable and innovative approach
  8. Highly organized
  9. Excellent interpersonal, written, oral, and computer skills

Credentials
Valid California Teaching credential. Valid English Learner authorization
