ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

Alpha Public Schools is a network of public charter schools serving the students of East San Jose.  Alpha’s mission is to provide children from high-poverty communities with an education that effectively develops the academic skills and character competencies to overcome the achievement gap and graduate from college.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Instructional Coach will actively support and coach instructional staff at one of Alpha’s schools in order to ensure that all students are able to meet or exceed their academic goals. Alpha is looking for a seasoned educator to take on a role that will require a high comfort level with shifting priorities. This role will help lead teachers through various content level team meetings, navigate and assess student data and master the foundations of successfully teaching specifically around our Math and English Language Arts programs. Additionally, this person will work closely with school leaders and support their work as needed in order to ensure student achievement. The percentage of time allocated for each category below is subject to change and shift as needed. Lastly, this person is expected to serve as a leader among her/his peers and support Alpha’s leadership team with staff and academic initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Facilitate the intellectual and professional development of teachers with a focus on improving student achievement
• Create positive relationships with teachers and administrators that are aligned with Alpha’s culture and staff values
• Work with teachers to write and adapt lesson plans for both Math or English Language Arts
• Guide teachers through internalizing and customizing curriculum, creating assessments, and locating appropriate teaching resources
• Provide teachers with support, regular feedback and expert advice on:
  • Lesson plans, unit plans and assessments
  • Assist teachers in aligning their teaching with appropriate standards, curriculum and assessments
  • Deliver positive, constructive, and honest feedback, both written and verbal around lesson plans, content mastery and teacher’s instructional methods
  • Understanding scope and sequence models
  • Support the development of curriculum
  • Assist teachers with the collection and analysis of student data results
• Cultivate a standards based, data and results oriented culture among all instructional staff
• Provide teachers support around improving personalization & personalized learning in the classroom
• Secure external resources for teachers, as needed
• Provide comprehensive/balanced training in and across assigned subject areas and curricular areas and lead workshops as necessary
• Work with the Academic team design and implementation on network based testing/assessment design, collaborate with school leaders to make instructional decisions based on student performance and make recommendations for best practices

QUALIFICATIONS

• EXPERIENCED:
  • Alpha Instructional Coaches have 4+ years of teaching experience
  • Experience leading and coaching teachers to improve instruction and curriculum
  • Strong content knowledge in Math or English Language Arts
  • Adept at using data to drive instruction
  • Experience teaching in a Blended Learning environment or experience teaching Common Core, preferred
  • Valid teaching credential, required
  • Bachelor’s degree, required

• COLLABORATIVE: Engage and work closely with fellow staff members, demonstrate strong communication and relationship building with teachers and principals
