Special Education Teacher
Job Description
Synopsis of Position
Teaches all eligible special education students in schools by performing the following duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plans and prepares lessons and instructional materials to meet individual needs of students. Those include physical, emotional, and educational levels of development
- Teacher follows local, states, and federal requirements in implementing program
- Confers with parents, administrators, general education teachers, testing specialists, appropriate agencies, and others to develop Individual Educational Program and Individual Transitional Plans for students as required
- Instructs students in academic subjects, life skills, self-help skills, and vocational skills as needed
- Maintains communication with parents regarding the students educational program
- Implements inclusion and community based activities as appropriate for each student
- Collaborates as appropriate with other staff
- Participates in Student Study Team and other committees or site activities, as appropriate
- Maintains confidentiality regarding student files or other relevant material
- Completes appropriate student assessments as legally required
- Complete Special Education case management duties including conducting initial and triennial academic evaluations, scheduling and completing paperwork for all required IEP meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervision of instructional aides
Qualifications and Education
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Possess or be eligible to possess a valid credential authorizing the teaching of disabled children or participate in CTC approved intern program
- Must have passed CBEST
- Demonstrate understanding and ability to maintain continuity of curriculum, materials, and strategies, including mainstreaming and inclusion for students with special needs
- Be able to work cooperatively with support services including all special services and other school personnel
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Possession of a valid California or adjacent Driver’s license

A safe and adequately equipped classroom or work space will be provided to each teacher

Terms of Employment
Fiscal Year: July 1st – June 30th: Contracted work days = 186
The salary, fringe benefit package, and other terms and conditions of employment will be competitive, negotiated with the county superintendent, and commensurate with the candidate’s education and experience. Please refer to web address: www.modoccoe.k12.ca.us
Evaluation Procedure
Performance evaluation will be completed annually and/or on an as needed basis by the management in charge in accordance with the provisions of the Superintendent’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
