Imperial County Office of Education CLASS TITLE: TEACHER OF THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED The Imperial County Office of Education provides special education services to students with severe disabilities and low-incidence disabilities (orthopedic impairments, hearing impairments, visual impairments, and deaf/blind). BASIC FUNCTION: With assistance of support staff; screen, evaluate, assess and provide direct instruction for students with visual impairments (partially sighted and blind). RESPONSIBILITIES: Participate on an inter-disciplinary team to provide appropriate services for students with visual impairments. Assist in developing appropriate programs, materials, and equipment necessary for the education of the student with visual impairments. Train, monitor and in (in some instances) supervise auxillary staff and parents in the techniques, methods and materials required to meet the specific needs of the student with disabilities. Provide coordination and consultation to teachers, instructional aides, and parents in relation to the student with visual impairments. REQUIREMENTS: A valid credential authorizing services to students with visually impairments. A valid California Driver’s License. DESIREABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with students with visual impairments.
