Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   
BASIC FUNCTIONS: Cleans, repairs and maintains buildings and grounds. Secures facility in accordance with policies and procedures. TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: * Stocks paper products in restrooms on a daily basis; hangs and replaces all paper dispensers as needed; maintain inventory of paper and cleaning supplies to ensure products are available at all times * Sanitizes restrooms and drinking fountains; dusts and mops restrooms on a daily basis; washes facility windows and restroom mirrors. *Performs minor repair of all plumbing fixtures, faucets, and electrical fixtures; changes light bulbs and ballasts; resets and adjusts heating and cooling controls; repairs furniture. *Empties trash from classrooms, break rooms and patio areas; washes trashcans *Dusts furniture in classrooms and offices; vacuums office areas and classrooms; sweeps patio and cleans ashtrays *Wipes down white-boards and chalkboards; replaces white-boards when necessary *Cleans refrigerator and microwave; sets up rooms for scheduled events and activities *Inspects facility for safety hazards and makes recommendations for safety improvements to Maintenance Supervisor *Paints interior and exterior walls as needed; remove graffiti as necessary *Locks doors, secures buildings and sets alarms *Loads and unloads materials or supplies from truck; moves furniture and transports computers as needed; occasionally performs delivery functions (The preceding functions have been provided as examples of the types of work performed by employees assigned to this job classification. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of safe use of cleaning chemicals used to clean equipment and the facility; methods for cleaning and repairing facilities and equipment; proper use of hand and power tools including electric drill circular saw, power screw driver, hammer, paint roller and brush and basic plumbing and electrical repair techniques. Skills required include basic plumbing, electrical and carpentry; proper use of cleaning materials and equipment; use of vacuum, high speed buffer and carpet cleaning machine; knowledge of basic safety hazards and standers. Apply common sense and understanding to carry out simple instructions. Ability to understand and follow specifications and work instructions; communicate effectively with staff, management and other departmental representatives; read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos; add, subtract, multiply and divide two digit numbers. Experience/Training/Education: Required: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one year related custodial and maintenance experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Training courses in general plumbing and electricity required. Physical Elements: Finger dexterity is needed to operate standard maintenance tools and equipment. The employee is regularly required to grasp, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, balance, or climb ladders to heights greater than 10 feet, and is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, bodily fluids and ris of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. When working outdoors the employee is exposed to normal seasonal weather variation. Special Requirements/Certification: Valid Class C or Class 3 California driver's license and acceptable driving records are required to perform deliveries or travel to various facilities.
