University High School is a 9th-12th grade free public charter high school located on the campus of California State University, Fresno. UHS provides an accelerated college preparatory education to approximately 480 students who share a common interest in music.  Students receive a strong foundation in music and the liberal arts and sciences in a small high school environment, while benefiting from the opportunities available on a large public university campus.

The school has one of the most rigorous high school programs in the country that requires all graduates to complete a year or more of college work as part of the curriculum.   UHS provides advanced curriculum for students who desire a greater challenge and who truly wish to be better prepared to enter a college or university after high school.  This is a key reason that UHS has been ranked by US News and World Report, the Washington Post, and Newsweek as one of the best schools in the nation for the last ten years.

We are looking for an experienced counselor knowledgeable about college and university advising, that is fluent in English and Spanish.  Our school is a great place to work as the students, parents and staff are terrific.

To provide social and emotional counseling to the UHS student body on a appointment and drop-in basis, and to work with another counselor to provide a full-range of academic counseling to students grades 9-12.  To assist with other school-related administrative and counseling tasks such as testing and scheduling as necessary.

Examples of Duties:

  • Provide short-term personal counseling for students regarding personal issues, including family crisis, trouble with friends or parents, academic problems, poor self image, eating disorders, suicidal thoughts, etc.
  • Assist in the orientation and placement of all students by using parent information, pupil conference, and/or cumulative records as appropriate and available
  • Plan and conduct parent workshops and hold sophomore conferences
  • Assist the staff in the reinforcement of appropriate school behavior
