Arcata High School is opening up our 1.0 fte Dean of Students position for the 2023-24 school year and looking forward to the opportunity to strengthen our administrative team in serving our students and staff.
Overall the Dean of Students, as part of the administrative team, is dedicated to making sure our school meets our vision of “fostering an inclusive community where all individuals can excel both personally and academically by empowering learners with meaningful skills in a safe and supportive environment” through their day to day work as well as through our larger district and site initiatives including building our Multi-Tiered System of Supports and through our continued Equity work.
The Dean of Students is responsible for:
Overseeing attendance, including the implementation of our District Attendance Policy and working with student’s and their families to support consistent daily attendance as well as working with and through the SART/SARB process, Campus Supervision and Safety, both during school hours and during extracurricular activities. Overseeing transition, support and attendance for AHS student’s who are on or are considering full time Independent Study, including working with, communicating and meeting with IS students, families, teachers and coordinators. Supporting the AHS Assistant Principal with site discipline as well as both 504 and IEP meetings.
Working with the Pacific Coast HS Principal and AHS counseling staff to help determine which students would benefit from moving to PCHS from AHS and which students would benefit from moving from PCHS to AHS
Overseeing, facilitating and or participating in the following site teams:

Transitions Teams (IS/PCHS)
MTSS Tier 2 Team
Student Assistance Team
