Instructional Aide (Chico Center) Butte-Glenn Community College Closing Date/Time: 3/29/2017 4 PM Pacific Location: Chico Center, CA Department: Student Services Description: Part-time 20 hours per week, 9 months per year CSEA - Range 17; $1,434.51 per month Foreign Language Lab, Chico Center OVERVIEW: Under direction of an administrator, assists instructors in the various instructional support tasks, as requested by an individual instructor or supervisor, including preparing teaching materials, maintaining records, assisting students in multi-level individualized programs, grading tests, maintaining facilities and equipment, etc. Performs related work as required. POSITION DUTIES: • Instructional Assistance: Observes student needs and apprises the lab instructor(s). Under direction of the instructor(s), works one-to-one with students in the lab or provides direction to a group of students specific to language technology. Provides assistance to new instructors on computer hardware used in the lab or on language software, as requested. Maintains communication with IAs at other sites to ensure continuity of lab support. • Student Assistance: Provides individual orientations and trainings to students throughout the semester on language lab procedures, lab hardware and language software. Supports individual student needs within the parameters of the language lab during drop-in hours, as needed. Makes appropriate referrals to instructor(s) or other Center for Academic Success staff, as needed or required. • Lab Set-Up: Notifies instructor(s) if language lab hardware is not being utilized for instructional purposes by students. Assists faculty in completing requests to be submitted to User Support Services for language lab updates. Creates and maintains student announcement area within language lab. • Records Maintenance: Keeps records of student attendance, lab hours and other data required by instructor(s).
Qualifications/Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school, G.E.D. or the equivalent*; AND One (1) year of experience closely related to the duties and responsibilities of this class. *High School education equivalency equals an adult education diploma or four (4) years of full-time, paid work experience. DIVERSITY QUALIFICATIONS: • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity and sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Two (2) year degree in Computer Science or Educational Technology, or equivalent experience in an instructional setting. • Bilingual skills (Spanish or Hmong) highly valued.
