DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: High School Principal or designee.

 

DEFINITION:

The following are the responsibilities of the Head Coach. These responsibilities may be delegated to assistant coaches at the discretion of the Head Coach, who will remain the person responsible for the supervision and operation of the team.

 

DUTIES:

Duties of the Head Coach shall include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:

?      Compliance with all Mountain House High School, Lammersville Unified School District, Trans Valley League, California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), and NCAA rules and regulations.

?      To provide an environment that is physically and emotionally safe for our student-athletes by conducting routine inspections of facilities and equipment, no tolerance of hazing, and any other unsafe practices and behavior.

?      Reports any unsafe conditions to the facilities administrator and completes work orders in a timely manner to correct safety hazards.

?      Maintain current CPR/First Aid Certification and other safety and sports training as assigned.

?      Verifies that the Athletic Director clears each athlete before allowing him/her to tryout or practice.

?      In coordination with the Athletic Director, plan and implement the scheduling of team activities, tryouts, practices, game plans and summer activities.

?      Complies with time restraints for practice and contest schedules, including holidays/Saturdays, as well as off-season schedule.

?      Prepare and implement a pre-season conditioning program.

?      Instruct athletes on correct form and techniques in beginning and advanced exercises to develop the maximum physical potential of the player.

?      Prepare a practice schedule on a weekly or monthly basis, designating practice days, times and locations, as well as an outline of the daily focus of each session.

?      Provide immediate supervision of athletes during all aspects of any athletic or school event in which the team is a part. This includes, but is not limited to, locker rooms, practices, games, and fundraisers.

?      Oversee the players as they develop and enhance their individual skills and abilities

?      Teach the student-athlete the sport specific rules, strategies, and etiquette. Fosters training in conduct, ethics and sportsmanship for all participants and coaches.

?      Responsible for distribution, collection, and general upkeep of all uniforms and equipment and providing an end of the season inventory.

?      The Head Coach must have the ability to communicate effectively and must possess leadership skills.

?      Sets up a preseason parent orientation meeting for all levels to review eligibility, athletic code, team rules, and risk factors for all athletes.

?      Provide a time and method of communication, outside of practice, for players and parents.

?      Works with the Athletic Director and the Principal to maintain communication and to solve problems at the school level while supporting the ideas of the program/parent concern procedures.

?       In charge of assignments and duties of the assistant coaches under his/her supervision.

?      In coordination with the Athletic Director, monitors student attendance and academic performance.

?      Responsible for completing and submitting requests for Transportation in a timely manner.

?      Submits an annual written report evaluating the program, with recommendations for improvements, as requested by the Athletic Director.

?      Promotes the program by prompt, accurate reporting of scores to the local media and MaxPreps, while maintaining a positive relationship with the local media.

?      Cooperates with all of the coaches in providing the optimum sports program possible.

?      Works with the ASB Advisor and Booster Club for all fundraising activities, while maintaining accurate records of monies collected and deposited in compliance with District requirements.

?      Use of available and emerging technologies that enhance the student sport experience, facilitate communication among students, parents, and community, and improve student knowledge, skill and ability in the sport. 

?      Appropriate Coaching Certification, First Aid, and CPR required.

?      Other duties as assigned.

Concussion in Sports 3. NFHS First Aid, Health and Safety for Coaches is MANDATORY and cost $45. (This needs to be renewed every 3 years) 4. You must have proof of a current CPR certification. 5. CHEER COACHES ONLY need to take an additional Spirit Safety Certification offered through the American Association of Cheer Coaches and Administrators.
