PRIMARY FUNCTION

Directly responsible to the police services administrator in conjunction with school site administration; perform school District police duties, in and about the school sites and other District-owned and operated properties; provide support services for “at-risk” students with attendance and other related concerns; provide one-on-one support for students and/or parents; work closely with site administration and personnel to identify and monitor “at-risk” students; participate in meetings; make child abuse referrals when appropriate; possess knowledge of socio-economic and cultural-ethnically diversified student population, and the ability to effectively communicate and discern needs; enforce applicable sections of the California Education Code, Penal Code, District Board Policy, individual school rules, policies, regulations and procedures; and perform other duties as assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assure the safety and security of District personnel, students, and visitors on District property and at District activities.
  • Assure security services are provided to District buildings, facilities, materials/contents, bus stops, parking lots and areas adjacent to schools where students may gather.
  • Collect, transport, and deposit District monies.
  • Patrol buildings and grounds of school campus.
  • Conduct foot and/or bike patrol of assigned areas during, before, and after school hours.
  • Direct and monitor student activities.
  • Assist visitors in their movement to and from District activities and property.
  • Work with school site administrators in controlling unauthorized presence and movement of students and non-students.
  • Take appropriate action to quell disturbances.
  • Work collaboratively with site administration, Public Safety Officers, and outside law enforcement personnel.
  • Work cooperatively with local law enforcement agencies (Sacramento Police, Sacramento County Sheriffs’ Departments and California Highway Patrol), as well as other emergency service agencies.
  • Operate equipment and devices needed to orderly conduct responsibilities of the position.
  • Secures crime scenes, preserves physical evidence, take written statements from victims, witnesses and suspects, and performs follow up investigations.
  • Write clear, concise and accurate reports utilizing appropriate technology.
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to security operations on incidents including, but not limited to, crime reports, citations, incident reports, property damage and theft reports.
  • Follow established District procedures in reporting.
  • Participate in on going training as provided by the District.
  • Participate in periodic uniform inspections.

  • May be required to operate District vehicles in the performance of assigned duties.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of: 

  1. Familiar with concepts and application of behavior modification strategies and techniques.
  2. Policies, rules, and regulations concerning campus control, security, and appropriate student behavior.
  3. Crowd control procedures.
  4. Detection and identification of dangerous drugs and improper substances.
  5. Safe campus supervision methods and procedures.
  6. Applicable sections of California laws and codes, District Board Policy, individual school rules, policies, regulations and procedures.

Ability to:

  1. Control the movement of persons.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Must be twenty-one (21) years old by the filing deadline. Two (2) years prior law enforcement experience is desired.

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High school graduation or equivalent and graduate of the Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Basic Academy are required.  Associate Arts Degree or equivalent is desirable.

 

LICENSE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid California Class C Drivers’ License, with a good driving record, and proof of insurance are required. Completion of Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Basic Academy and Training as identified in California Government Code Section 1031, and eligibility for certification within one-year of appointment, if not already certified; successful completion of physical agility test, firearms certification, report writing, communication skills test, and P.O.S.T. Field Training Officer Program. No Felony convictions under California Government Code Section 1029. Must be a US Citizen.

 

UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT

Required to wear the prescribed District uniform and equipment including sidearm, chemical mace, handcuffs and baton as directed by the Chief of Police. All required uniforms and equipment will be supplied at District expense.
