PlayThrive After School Teacher (Mandarin Chinese)

Collaborative Team Float Teacher  |  10-15 hr/wk   |  1 position available  

 Speak Mandarin Chinese? Love working with elementary aged children? Do you believe in learning through collaboration with students and colleagues? Yes, yes and yes?  Then we want to hear from you!

Team Float Teacher position starting immediately in Redwood City:

- Weekly commitment of 10-15 hours, between the hours of 12 noon to 6:15 PM
- Work with teaching team to develop a student-centered program
- On-the-job training in Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

Required Qualifications:

- Ability to speak/read/write Mandarin Chinese
- Supportive of a whole-child educational approach to learning and development
- Experience teaching and/or leading elementary aged student groups
- Authorized to work for any employer in US

Preferred Qualifications:

- Combination of schooling and/or experience in Early Childhood Education
- Classroom management experience
- Experience in outdoor or physical education

We offer competitive pay based on experience $15-$17/hour, training in Social Emotional Learning (SEL), and freedom to co-create programs in topic areas you enjoy.  

Responsibilities:

 Team Teach After School Program

- Supervise 6-8 students ages 5 to 8
- Provide a physically and emotionally safe environment
- Foster a positive community by involving students in rule-making and self-assessing modeling expected behavior and language, and providing fun activity choices
- Support students in knowing themselves and connecting with peers
- Maintain an organized classroom to promote learning through exploration
- Lead and supervise outdoor/nature activities and group games, unless there is inclement weather
- Log student behavior and interaction with peers

PlayThrive is a non-profit organization that promotes whole child education and operates a bilingual language after school program, located on the campus of John Gill Elementary school in Redwood City, CA.  We’re looking for teachers that believe children thrive when they can explore, have fun, connect with one another, develop empathy toward the larger world, and cultivate a passion for lifelong learning.
