Looking for Child & Youth Development (CYD) focused candidates to work with youth in a Licensed before and/or after-school program setting. The Youth Development Teacher (YDT) role is the next position, after Youth the Development Aide, in the Licensed CYD department. The YDT works as a part of a team to not only ensure the program is meeting/exceeding all licensing standards, but creating an environment that is welcoming, safe and constantly evolving. As a YDT you are able to work independently with a group of youth and follow the daily calendar of activities that are meant to improve academic growth, build character and keep all participants engaged. As a Youth Development Teacher you will hone several professional skillsets, including written & verbal communication, problem solving, leadership, positive behavior management and facilitation. This experience will not only help support professional growth within the YMCA, but anywhere you want to go.

What a Youth Development Teacher Does…

  • Assists in the program management and supervision of a group of children 5-12 years of age, along with the planning, implementation, and facilitation of activities and events for participants.
  • Implement age-appropriate program activities that engage students in active and meaningful experiences
  • Collaborate with school personnel and program partners to align high quality academic activities and coordinate student services.
  • Provide positive behavior guidance that supports the developmental, social-emotional, and physical needs of all students.

What We Look for in a Youth Development Teacher…

  • Must be 18 years of age or older and a high school graduate.
  • Completion, with passing grades, of 12 semester units in Child Development (CD) or related field.  (Related fields can include: Arts, Early Childhood Education, Education, Humanities, Physical Education, Psychology, Recreation, Sociology, and Theater)
    • Completion, with passing grades, of 6 units with 6 more units of current enrollment in Child Development or related field will be considered.
  • Minimum of 6 months working in a child and youth development, education, or comparable setting preferred.

 

 

Requirements / Qualifications

Youth Development Teachers require at least 12 Units of Child Development. However, GE units may also qualify. - You will need to provide a copy of your transcripts at the time of interview. - Unsure if you qualify, we suggest you apply and we'll assess your qualifications at that time.
