Position Description

Title: Instructional Associate Lead and Program Associate

Reports to: Executive Director

Salary Range: $11.50-$18.00 an hour

General Description


Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students in assigned subject areas and provide supervision as scheduled. It is expected that an Instructional Assistant at SDGVA will implement a rigorous academic standards-based curriculum with a school-wide emphasis on writing and ensure all students possess academic self-confidence to develop leadership skills to participate in the Global Community.


Overarching Roles:

  • Implement San Diego Global Vision Academy to achieve its mission, vision and goals in the classroom.

  • Work collaboratively to achieve the overall measureable goals as listed in the charter.

  • Adapt and adjust to current needs of SDGVA environment in a positive manner including flexibility requested by administration regarding schedules, duties,etc.

  • Duties as assigned and adapted by administration throughout the school year.


Representative Duties ( non-exhaustive):

  • Demonstrate the ability to work with the target populations

  • Committed to students success and willing to take responsibility for student learning

  • Understanding of and willingness to implement standards-based instruction and curriculum assigned

  • Plans for and guides the learning process to help students achieve content objectives

  • Maintains a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning

  • Establishes a cooperative relationship with all assigned students

  • Is proactive and maintains a safe environment while on supervision

  • Conduct safety patrol before/after-school with traffic, if requested.


General Duties ( these times and dates are subject to change depending on school calendar and start & end times):

  • Reporting times can vary depending on start time of school. In general 7:00am (for a 8:00am start time ). Morning meetings can be scheduled but a notice will go out to inform staff of the meeting.

  • School ends at 3:00pm ( subject to change )




Requisite Abilities

  • Must be willing to work in/with and support a communicative and collaborative team model with a positive professional demeanor

  • Operate standard office equipment and related software applications

  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing with adults and students K-8th grade.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others ( adults and students )

  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action regarding student academic achievement, behavior leadership and/ or interactions with adults( parents /guardians or SDGVA colleagues)

  • Plan, organize and effectively complete work required on an ongoing basis

  • Meet schedules and timelines as defined by colleagues and / or administration

  • Maintain records and prepare required reports for colleagues and / or administration, such as IEP, assessments reports, accountability measures and charter renewal

  • Work independently with little direction required by administration or SDGVA colleagues

  • Read, interpret, agree, apply, and explain rules , regulations, policies,and procedures for SDGVA

  • Maintain positive professional demeanor and actively avoid problem-saturated conversations, gossip and cliques.


Professional Development

  • Work as a team member of our SDGVA community

  • Actively implements and strives to improve on SDGVA’ s Professional  Competencies

  • Employs positive communication strategies with colleagues & parents/guardians.

  • Engages in professional development growth activities during peer collaboration and professional development days.

  • Reflective of their leadership style and willing to adapt to the needs of SDGVA colleagues as a contributing member of the school-wide learning community.


Parent-Community Involvement

  • Maintains open lines of communication with parents/guardians using SDGVA email account. Responds to parent /guardian inquiries within reasonable time period.

  • Participate professionally in community events that involve SDGVA families.

  • Engage in a professional manner that represents SDGVA communication values with parents/ guardians during supervision of students outside of classroom i.e 6-to-6 care or ASES Program.

  • Safety both inside and outside the classroom (including drop off and pick up)


Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience

  • Associate Degree ( Desired).

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

  • Proof of Tuberculosis clearance every four years; fingerprint clearance by the Department of Justice.

  • CPR/ 1st Aid Certification.

  • Be able to lift up to 75 pounds .

  • Physically able to moving furniture, equipment and use a lift or hand truck.

  • In good physical condition for student supervision.

  • Be able to stand or sit for long periods of time, take students to class and participating in school events that require physical activity.
