Clinical Faculty and Director: School Counseling and Psychology Program – Bakersfield Campus
POSITION: Part-time, with faculty rank; non-continuing status track (non-tenure); clinical position; 11 month faculty appointment in the School of Education.
STARTING DATE: August 1, 2016 or as soon as a suitable candidate is discerned.
This position provides direction for both the School Counseling and School Psychology Masters and Credential programs for the Bakersfield Regional Campus. The area served includes the city of Bakersfield, where the FPU Campus is located, as well as Kern County and its surroundings. The director will coordinate with FPU Campuses in North Fresno and Visalia and will meet regularly with them, the School of Education faculty, and the Interim PPS Chair. This part-time position will also be responsible for teaching courses for PPS Counseling and School Psychology. The Program Director reports directly to the Chair of the PPS Programs and the Dean of the School of Education.
ROLE
- Ongoing professional development and participation in teacher preparation professional organizations, and agencies;
- Maintain professional memberships and professional development;
- Carry out other duties as assigned by the PPS Chair and Dean of the School of Education;
- Work with the PPS Directors for Counseling and School Psychology at all FPU Campuses, and faculty and staff who work within the PPS programs;
- Attendance at all Program Director and Faculty meetings;
- Oversee all continuing and new program initiatives within the program and ensure the academic quality and integrity of the program;
- Initiate recommendations regarding program planning, course scheduling, and faculty assignments within the program, in conjunction with the PPS Chair and Dean of the School of Education;
- Lead the academic activities of the faculty within the program and monitor the performance of the program, in conjunction with the PPS Chair and Dean of the School of Education;
- Represent the program to the internal and external communities, e.g. California Teacher Credentialing (CTC), WSCUC, other Federal and State regulatory agencies, internship sites, and professional associations;
- Support (by offering advice and consultation) marketing and public relations initiatives for the program, in conjunction with the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Services, the Vice President for Integrated Marketing, and the Bakersfield Regional Campus director and staff;
- Selection of qualified instructors at the terminal level in their area of expertise and with practical experience in the field, and review vita of all current instructors and new instructors for qualifications to teach in the School Counseling and Psychology program;
- Monitor syllabi content from every instructor;
- Monitor IRB research designs for qualitative or quantitative methods of analysis;
- Conduct faculty meetings with FPU PPS faculty at Regional Campuses at least once per semester (via teleconferencing when necessary);
- Support planning and development, outreach, and recruitment of students;
- Assist students who require licensure in a second state and advise students about alternative routes to licensure as permitted by CTC;
- Monitor Independent Research Project and Exit Portfolio development.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Earned terminal degree in Counseling, Psychology or Education (candidates with a master’s degree, or those nearing terminal degree completion, may be considered); all faculty are required to have, or be willing to complete, a terminal degree.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills;
- Commitment to the Christian faith and the University’s mission of Christ-centered teaching and learning and involvement in a local church.
- Current knowledge of state certification regulations, including knowledge of practicum and internship requirements including the selection of permissible sites for practicum and internship training;
- Experience and sensitivity in managing people in complex organizational settings;
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills;
- Proven administrative experience within PPS programs;
- Experience with managing academic programs for working adults;
- Experience with the development of extensive networks and connections with external stakeholders;
- The ability to work well with colleagues, other professionals, and adult students;
Preferred:
- Record or promise of scholarly achievement;
- Current credentialed School Psychologist, Director of Guidance k-12 and/or Guidance Counselor k-12 licenses in the State of California;
- Member of California Association of School Psychologists and/or California School Counselors Association, and American School Counselors Association.

COMPENSATION: Dependent on qualifications and experience, and paid out over 12 months. Full-time benefits include insurance (medical, vision, dental, LTD), retirement (TIAA-CREF), Section 125 options.
