JOB TITLE: PASSENGER VAN DRIVER

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities, or Transportation Lead who

determines the bus routes and provides direction.

 

SUPERVISES: Student passengers

 

NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB:

The Van Driver transports students in a safe and efficient manner and performs all activities related to the operation of the school van. Van Driver adheres, without exception, to all traffic laws while driving any and all school vehicles. Van Driver upholds the Mission of the school.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

The Van Driver shall:

1. Hold and maintain a Valid California Driver’s License, with no serious violations.

 

2. Be a reliable person of good character who shall possess the qualifications and communication skills necessary to perform the duties of the position, and comply with the rules set forth for drivers in all federal, state and local regulations.

 

3. Have a minimum of five years’ previous safe driving experience.

 

4. Have sufficient mechanical aptitude to recognize minor problems and report these problems.

 

5. Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.

 

6. Exhibits positive interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community.

 

7. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Bus/Van Driver shall:

 

1. Drive school buses and transport students between pickup points and school or to various events, activities, and destinations.

 

2. Be in full charge of the van at all times and report unmanageable students to the Director of Facilities or available Administrator.

 

3. Check and clean van at end of shift.

 

4. Check gas, battery, oil, and water before departure.

 

5. Check vehicle for operating safety.

 

6. Assist disabled students and others out of and into vehicles.

 

7. Demonstrate knowledge of assigned routes and stops by actually driving the route and noting stops before the first day of service without students aboard.

 

8. Adhere to safety rules when loading and unloading pupils.

 

9. Prepare simple reports and keep logs of trips.

 

10. Conduct a pre-trip and post trip safety inspection of the bus prior to every trip and complete the daily van log.

 

11. Notify Director of Facilities of any mechanical malfunctions and/or safety hazards.

 

12. Adhere to established routes, designated bus stops and keep to assigned time schedule.

 

13. Transport, log and account for authorized students only.

 

Utilize all school property for the function and purpose of the needs of the school only, and not for personal use.

 

Uphold the Mission of the school in all actions and communication.

          The Academy of Our Lady of Peace, an all girls Catholic high school of 750 students, is hiring for part time passenger van drivers. Work hours will be based on student needs and will include early morning, midday, and evening shifts. Under general supervision of the Director of Facilities, van drivers will transport students to and from school to designated drop off locations. Van drivers will also drive student athletes to off site practices and games. Van drivers are expected to uphold the mission of the Academy of Our Lady of Peace at all times. Additionally, the position requires assisting with clerical duties, and vehicle record keeping. Applicants should be able to show completion of education sufficient to assure the ability to read, write and speak at the level required for successful job performance. Previous experience in the care and supervision of adolescents is preferred. We are looking for applicants who can: *Uphold the Mission of the school. *Have a current California Drivers License with no significant violations * Deal tactfully and effectively with students utilizing a “positive intent” communication style. * Can assist passengers on and off the van. * Understand and follow directions.
