Job Description:

 

Teachers are responsible for the care and education of a group of children as part of a teaching team. Each teacher functions as the class leader and/or co-teacher. The teacher plans and implements the curriculum while maintaining a safe and nurturing environment. With active participation of other members of the teaching team, the teacher works with parents and assesses the needs of the individual children. Teachers report to and are supervised by the Preschool Director. This is a non-exempt, hourly, part-time position requiring approximately 25 hours on site per week.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum qualifications: -Must meet all current California requirements for preschool teachers (including Mandated Reporter Certification) -Must have strong verbal and written communication skills -Must be able to multi-task and interact well with others -Must have current pediatric first aid and CPR certification -Must successfully pass background check/fingerprinting in accordance with California State regulation -Must be able to lift 30 pounds -Must be available to maintain a consistent and reliable attendance

-For employment as a teacher must either have completed 6 semester equivalent units with passing grade in early childhood education or child development OR shall have a Child Development Assistant Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing -After employment, a teacher hired with the above shall complete with passing grades at least 2 units each semester or quarter until the education requirement of 12 post secondary semester equivalent units in early childhood education or child development is met. -A fully qualified teacher shall have at least 12 post secondary education units in early childhood education or childhood development with passing grades at an accredited or approved college or university and at least 6 months of work experience in a licensed child care center or comparable group child care program. The units specified shall include courses that cover the general areas of child growth and development or human growth and development; child, family and community or child and family; and program curriculum. Experience shall be verified as having been performed satisfactorily at least 3 hours per day for a minimum of 50 days in a 6 month period as a paid or volunteer staff member under the supervision of a person who would qualify as a teacher or director. -OR a current and valid Child Development Associate (CDA) credential with the appropriate age-level endorsement and at least 6 months of on the job training and/or work experience in a licensed childcare center or comparable group child care program. Experience shall be verified as above. -OR one of the following permits issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing: Child Development Associate Teacher Permit, Child Development Teacher Permit or Child Development Master Teacher Permit. With active participation of other members of the teaching team, the teacher works with parents and assesses the needs of individual children. A teacher reports to and is supervised by the Preschool Director. This is a nonexempt hourly part time position. ALL LLP STAFF RECEIVES 40% OFF TUITION IF YOU HAVE A CHILD ATTENDING Classroom and learning -Provide an integrated curriculum that meets the cognitive, social, emotional, physical, visual and performing arts standards of the California Learning Foundation -Develop age appropriate lesson plans for the class -Plan and implement experiences that promote language and literacy development -Plan and implement activities that promote the acquisition of math and science -Model and teach God’s love for each child through stories, songs, activities, and grace before meals -Plan and implement activities that develop social skills -Establish classroom routines with smooth transition periods -Communicate with children at their developmental level -Encourage children to be independent -Must be in charge of each classroom and may not leave children under any circumstance without arranging for backup by another teacher or director Health and Safety -Give full attention to the students and be responsible for the safety and well being of each child -Know how to assess and when to exclude an ill child from the rest of the class -Participate in the care and cleaning of classrooms including toys, furniture and equipment -Administer first aid as needed and report incidents to the director immediately Relationship with families -Promote communication with parents through weekly program notes and semiannual parent/teacher conferences -Relate assessment information to parents and offer support for dealing with children at different developmental stages -Work with family and director as a team to develop an individual plan to support the child’s inclusion and success when the child has serious or challenging behaviors -Encourage parents to participate in the program Administrative and professional -Maintain weekly written lesson plans.
