FRESNO PACIFIC UNIVERSITY
Program Director / Clinical Faculty in Designated Subjects Education
POSITION: Part-time, with faculty rank; non-continuing status track (non-tenure); clinical position; 11 month faculty appointment in the Educational Leadership division of the School of Education.
STARTING DATE: August 1st; review of applications is on-going and will continue until a suitable candidate is discerned.
The Designated Subjects (DSE) program resides in the Educational Leadership division of the School of Education. The program offers three credentials: Career Technical Education (CTE), Special Subjects, and Supervision and Coordination. All credentials are fully accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). Courses are offered face-to-face (F2F) in Fresno, Visalia, and totally online in Moodle. Most F2F courses are designed to take advantage of the blended online format. Candidates are required to take 15 units; the English Language Learner (EL) authorization is embedded in the coursework.
DSE teacher candidates progress through the coursework in cohorts, two are formed each year, one in the spring and one in the fall. It typically takes 9-10 months to complete the program. Because candidates are considered experts in their field, they do not require the teaching of the subject matter, but must develop into outstanding teachers by thoroughly understanding the theory and pedagogy of teaching.
The faculty position will be based at the FPU North Fresno Campus and may require travel to regional campuses in Visalia, Merced, and Bakersfield. Courses are taught in the evenings at the Regional Campuses. Travel to clinical sites throughout the valley is required for clinical evaluation of students, contracting, and student placement.
