About KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy

KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy is dedicated to empowering our students with the knowledge, skills, and character traits needed to succeed in top-quality high schools, colleges, and in the competitive world beyond.  KIPP SF Bay Academy opened its doors in July 2003 in the Western Addition neighborhood of San Francisco. The school has received several awards, including the prestigious California Distinguished School Award, given to one percent of schools in the state.


Key Responsibilities

  • · Oversee and direct professional development of all instructional staff
  • · Direct the school's standards based assessment strategies and systems in order to support a data-driven culture where assessments are used to increase learning and support all students
  • · Oversee the development and implementation of a rigorous, college preparatory curriculum that is aligned to Common Core State Standards
  • · Support teachers to continually develop pedagogical practices that are rigorous, meet all students’ needs, and ensure student success in a Common Core aligned curriculum
  • · Establish performance goals for/with all instructional staff
  • · With the School Leader, manage teacher performance evaluations
  • · Provide timely and relevant feedback on plans, practices, and strategies to ensure continuous improvement and ongoing development of instructional staff
  • · Create a culture of feedback and sharing of effective practices amongst instructional staff
  • · With the School Leader, develop a plan of action for the year. This may include: needs assessment, goal setting, identification of major task areas and steps for accomplishing tasks, method of establishing effective communication, method/calendar for supporting and developing teachers     

Key Activities:

  • · Ensure that teachers design scaffolded, standards-based, long-range and unit plans
  • · Support teachers in designing effective and rigorous lesson plans with specific, measurable, and standards-based objectives
  • · Evaluates teacher progress and performance
  • · Plan and execute professional development opportunities for teachers including workshops on interpreting data, curriculum mapping, vertical alignment, and seeks other external professional development opportunities.
  • · Observe classes regularly and create a system for timely and relevant feedback.
  • · Establish expectations of differentiation in all classrooms
  • Facilitate collaboration and sharing among teachers including peer observations, coaching and mentorship, and joint planning sessions
  • · Maintain close contact with resource teachers and student receiving extra services:
  • · Attend all IEP, SST, and 504 meetings
  • · Work with resource specialists to provide constructive feedback on teachers’ planning and assessment materials to ensure that our students’ diverse learning needs are being met
  • · Work with the Literacy Coordinator to develop and maintain RTI program
  • · Work with School Leader to implement regular interim testing and manage the evaluation of results
  • · With School Leader to run data analysis meetings with teachers
  • · Facilitate high school placement assessments, paperwork, and KIPP King shadow visits
  • · Coordinate testing schedules
  • Manage budget for instructional and assessment materials

Skills and Qualifications

  • · Experience managing or coaching teachers, specifically around instructional strategies, planning and assessment
  • · At least three years’ experience teaching middle school students, preferably in a low-income or high needs population, with a track record of outstanding academic results
  • · Has a clear vision of excellent classroom instruction
  • · Strong organization and planning skills
  • · High degree of initiative, vision, creativity, and tenacity
  • · Strong work-ethic, exceptional leadership and flexibility, and proven written and verbal communication skills across a wide variety of stakeholders (students, teachers, families)
  • · Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP Summit Academy’s mission and values
