Position Title: TEACHER, RESOURCE, SPECIAL EDUCATION

Department: Special Education

Reports to: Site Principal/Director of Special Education

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Director of Special Education and/or site principal, plans, implements, and evaluates the instructional activities for individual students assigned class and subject area. Responsible for adaptation of the education program to enable students to benefit from educational experiences. Responsible for communication and coordination with all participants of Eligibility and Planning Committee.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Same as K-12 teacher

  • Plans, implements, monitors, and evaluates Individual Education Plan (IEP) of each assigned student.

  • Prepares appropriate lesson plans and objectives based upon individual student’s IEP goals and grade level expectations.

  • Coordinates students’ inclusion into general education classes and activities as an inclusion facilitator/specialist.

  • Maintain functional learning environments. Comply with rules and regulations of California Code of Ed, Title V, and policies and procedures of Newcastle elementary School District. Prepare reports required by district, county and state.

  • Provide learning environment that allows for individual differences and respect for dignity and worth of each student.

  • Performs educational assessments in accordance with California State Standards, district policy, school programs and IEP goals.

  • Develops, implements, monitors and revises behavior support plans as required by students for educational success.

  • Prepares required student forms and maintains accurate student academic records, attendance records, and cumulative student progress and achievement records and reports.

  • Informs parents of enrolled children concerning progress toward goals and encourages their participation in IEP meetings and parent conferences.

  • Participates in all state/federal review processes as requested.

  • Possesses ability to read, understand, and carry out oral and written directions.

  • Participates in appropriate IEP planning/meetings and other meetings as required.

  • Builds trust and confidence with students.

  • Maintains the physical environment of the classroom for organization and presentation

  • purposes. Encourages good citizenship.

  • Monitors student progress in and outside resource room

  • Evaluates student progress based on work output and observation, determines goals,

  • objectives and directions.

  • Participates in scheduled site and/or district Special Education meetings

  • Develop an effective working relationship with other special education and classroom teachers.

  • Trains, supervises, and evaluates Special Needs Aides and Behavior Intervention Aides as assigned.

  • Performs the duties of an inclusion facilitator/specialist.

  • Implements all duties in compliance with all state and federal Special Education laws and mandates.

  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises classroom, students, aides and volunteers.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Skills to motivate special education students in one or more areas and to communicate with individuals from varied backgrounds.

  2. Knowledge of California State Standards, curriculum, education code, and Special Education law.

  3. Ability to maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and school personnel.

  4. Ability to perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, and meet schedule deadlines.


REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree with valid California Teaching Credential and the appropriate Special Education Credential and authorization for the specific position.

  2. Teaching experience at various grade levels and with learning disabled students.

  3. Knowledge of subject area and instructional methodologies and techniques.


REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree with valid California Teaching Credential authorizing service in learning handicapped.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Teaching experience at various grade levels and learning disabled students; Master's Degree and/or post graduate course work.
