Job Title: After School Program Coordinator

Job Purpose:

The After School Program Coordinator plans for and executes a successful after school program at the schools within The Academies CMO (TACMO). This person is responsible for the supervision and coordination of the program and staff. The After School Program Coordinator maintains an appropriate learning environment and contributes their talents to create an excellent program and positive experience in the after school hours for the Charter School students. The After School Program operates separately from the regular school day and educational program at The Academies CMO. The Program serves only those Charter School students whose families opt to participate, and participation is not required or necessary in order for a student to be successful in The Academies CMO’s regular education program.

Team Relationship:

The After School Program Coordinator is directly responsible to the Operations Director and works closely with The Academies CMO administrative staff and school site staff. The After School Program Coordinator has supervisory duties as indicated in The Academies CMO Organizational Chart.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Plans for a fun, effective after school program, which may include daily and long range planning with other staff members of The Academies CMO.
  • Plans for fun, effective intersession programs as needed.
  • Prepares instructional materials for the after school program, ensuring materials are well- managed and school property is maintained in an orderly fashion.
  • Maintains accurate record of student participation/attendance.
  • Manages registration, billing, and payments including the collection of past due fees.
  • Ensures compliance with grant program requirements, if applicable.
  • Oversees recruitment of program participants and staff.
  • Attends TACMO Board of Directors meetings, as needed.
  • Works with site staff to develop and maintain staff and program schedules.
  • Provides leadership and coaching to After School Program staff and arranges for additional professional development and training for staff.
  • Observes and evaluates After School Program Aide performance.
  • Communicates effectively with teacher(s) and/or the site administrators regarding observed student behavior/progress/needs, so that appropriate interventions may be delivered as needed by certificated school site staff during the school day.
  • Provides regular, proactive communication with the school community regarding the program.
  • Communicates effectively with parents/families regarding student behavior, payment of fees, and other concerns, as needed.
  • Communicates effectively with members of the community, and with stakeholders: the staff, the students, the parents/families, the TACMO Board of Directors, and representatives/partners of outside organizations.
  • Enforces the rules and policies of the school and of the After School Program.
  • Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students.
  • Monitors the safety and security of students.
  • May assist students in completing homework in a manner consistent with the Charter School and educational philosophy of The Academies CMO.
  • May supervises students in classrooms, playgrounds, cafeteria, hallways, and study halls.
  • Serves on committees and task forces to support the school’s success as invited.
  • Helps the Charter School staff maintain a respectful, safe, and nurturing learning environment.
  • Participates in professional development workshops and training, as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

Education/Certifications

  • High school graduate. (required)
  • 12 units or more of college level coursework completed. (desired)
  • Basic first aid certificate. (required before start date)
  • Spanish language fluency. (desired)

Experience

  • Previous leadership and/or supervisory experience (desired)
  • Two or more years experience working with children and adults in a school setting. (desired)
  • Past participation in school events. (desired)

Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required

  • Effective and strategic communicator.
  • Ability to take initiative and follow through on assignments/tasks.
  • Strong leadership and effective staff management skills.

  • Familiarity with or willingness to be trained in instructional methodology and procedural compliance.
  • A proactive and effective approach to student discipline aligned with the school’s discipline policies.
  • Effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Integrity in all his/her dealings with the school community; is respectful, thoughtful, honest, and fair.
  • Ability to follow established procedures in an emergency situation.
