Job Summary

Mark Twain Middle School serves approximately 900 students in grades 6-8 on a traditional calendar. The school’s diverse student population is comprised of 52% Latino, 10% Black, 23% Caucasian, 4% Asian and 11% other ethnicities. The school supports Title I, English Learner, and Special Education students. It houses a variety of academic programs including Mandarin and Spanish Dual Language, Individual Honors Program and a World Languages Magnet. The instructional periods are organized on a traditional six period day. The school is located at 2224 Walgrove Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90066.

5 years of successful full-time public school certificated service, with no fewer than 3 years as a teacher. In addition to or concurrent with the 5 years, at least 2 years must have been at a middle or senior high school, grades 6-12. At least one year of verifiable experience must have been in a non-classroom leadership position such as coordinator, instructional coach, dean, etc.

Requirements / Qualifications

Required Experience must be in a public-school setting: • Five years of successful full-time public-school certificated service • Three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program • Two years of experience at a middle or senior high school • One year in a non-classroom leadership position (i.e., Categorical Adviser (0704), Temporary Adviser, Out of Classroom Assignment (0706), or Instructional Coach) A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching A valid California Administrative Services Credential Master’s degree from an accredited college or university Multicultural coursework* District Master Plan requirements* *Candidates have one year to complete this requirement

The Ideal Candidate will have knowledge and experience in creating a student-centered matrix and Master Schedule that ensures access and equity to a rigorous standard-based instructional program for all students. Will have experience coordinating the identification, placement, and monitoring of students in a variety of special programs and have knowledge of Magnet and Dual Language Program enrollment process. Additional desirables include: experience of school budget, schoolwide restorative intervention, and parent/community collaboration. Demonstrated success of technology integration; experience with all school operations and overall campus supervision; ability to develop student and staff culture utilizing the principles and practices of an equity-based system. Successful candidates will mentor, supervise, and evaluate certificated personnel using the EDST District system, as well as classified personnel.
