Athletic Trainer (Temporary Position)

Foothill-De Anza Community College District

 

The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the temporary classified position of Athletic Trainer. This position will report to De Anza College. This is a temporary position beginning on March 21, 2016 and ending on May 6, 2016.

DEFINITION:

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform the duties of athletic training, oversee the athletic training facilities and service the medical needs of the College athletes.

 

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries.

2. Manage the training room and oversee assistant trainers and student trainers.

3. Order equipment and supplies.

4. Act as liaison between coaches and athletes in injury matters.

5. Communicate with the Athletic Director in budget, facility and scheduling situations.

6. Work with and be advised by the team physician in medical areas.

7. Responsible to make arrangements for the athletes’ physical examinations.

8. Perform related duties as assigned.

 

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Knowledge of:

1. First aid and athletic taping.

2. Modalities used in care and prevention of injuries.

3. Computer i.e. Microsoft Office and other types of software programs.

 

Ability to:

1. Demonstrate understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.

2. Work with both male and female athletes.

3. Communicate with coaches and fellow staff members.

4. Handle modalities, equipment and supplies used in the sport medicine setting.

5. Communicate with the team physician with pre and post injury problems.

6. Work with the team physician in injury situations.

7. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

8. Utilize computer and demonstrate the ability to learn a variety of software programs.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Environment:

1. Indoor and outdoor environments, all weather conditions, a variety of game surfaces from wood floors to grass

 

Physical Abilities:

1. Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone as well as making presentations.

2. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, apply athletic tape support, manipulate joints, apply therapeutic modalities.

3. Seeing to read various materials.

4. Standing for extended periods of time.

5. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.

6. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.

7. Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 100 lbs.

8. Ability to run short distances to reach injured athletes.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.

2. Any combination equivalent to a Bachelors degree in a related field AND two (2) years experience in an athletic injury setting, in athletic psychology and sports medicine and in recognition and care of athletic injuries.

 

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

1. Membership in good standing with the National Athletic Trainer’s Association.

2. NATA BOC Certification.

3. Valid First Aid Certification.

4. Valid CPR Certification.

5. Class “B” driver’s license or ability to attain a class “B” license with in a year of hire.
