Job Description:
As a behavior therapist you work directly with children and families in their homes. You use play and daily routines to teach a variety of functional skills to children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and other developmental delays and disabilities. We use ABA teaching principles with an emphasis on Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT) to turn daily interactions that incorporate the child's interests into learning opportunities that fit within the family's everyday lifestyle. Depending on your personal experience and interests, you may also provide training to parents, in addition to working directly with the child.

Position: Behavior Therapist
Behavior Therapists must complete and pass fingerprinting, own a car and show proof of insurance, as well as have CPR certification.
The Behavior Therapist must pass the basic competency test following the initial training to start working with clients.
Responsibilities of the Behavior Therapist:
- Work 1:1 in the home with the child using ABA and PRT Strategies.
- Implement data collection procedures set up by the Case Supervisor to evaluate goal progress
- Participate in all trainings and evaluations pertinent to his or her scope of practice/job description.
- Communicate frequently and effectively with other team members
- Attend Supervision or Support and bring video clips weekly
- Attend Support and bring video clips weekly until fidelity of implementation is reached.
- Collect data on stated objectives and bring appropriate materials (including toys) as needed or to facilitate implementation of goals
- Follow schedule as determined by administrative staff and supervisors.
- Reschedule or make-up any cancelled appointments and inform appropriate staff of all cancellations and make ups
- Comply with all reporting requirements of the company, including all administrative, payroll submissions, billing information, etc., on a timely basis.
IN STEPPS physical requirements for Behavior Therapist positions
- Ability to independently and repeatedly lift, move and carry objects weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds
- Able to sit on the ground, sit on small chairs and bend and move at the waist
- Ability to walk, run and crawl during interactions with children
- Ability to engage in repetitive movements including squatting, jumping, lifting.
- Ability to move quickly and chase child
Job requirements:
-Desire to learn, ability to think out of the box, playfulness and multi-tasking abilities are critical!
-Creativity is a must
-BA degree in Psychology, Education, Theater, or related field.
-Experience with children and ability to have fun
-California Driver's License
-Reliable car and good driving record
-Willingness to drive between daily appointments
-Valid car registration and insurance
-No criminal record
-US citizenship or green card
-Experience with PRT prefered, but willing to train the right candidate
-MUST HAVE availability to work from 1pm-8pm at least 4 days each week (and attend training 9a-5p for one full week)
-Open Saturday availability preferred
