Responsibilities and Expectations Provide quality instruction and learning opportunities for students in a manner that meets the educational guidelines and objectives of SLOCA’s classical approach and provides a respectful learning environment for all students Prioritize Classical Methods and Principles including inquiry and Socratic discussion, hands-on, experiential learning opportunities Share the responsibility to the prepare students to join the great conversation - think clearly and critically, express themselves well, engage in respectful dialogue, nurture the love of learning, engender respect for various cultures and beliefs (politics, religion, etc.) Work with the teaching team to care holistically for each student ensuring their success and growth - academic, emotional and social Develop curriculum and plan lessons Support parents in their role as co-teacher, helping students and families understand classical education; actively contribute to student/family retention Pursue professional development; fully engage in

San Luis Obispo Classical Academy (SLOCA) is looking for dynamic teachers to instruct in science at the lower and upper middle school levels (5th/6th and 7th/8th grade). Applicants must have at least 2 years teaching experience, relevant education/experience in the listed subjects, be adept at making connections across curricular subjects and have excellent references. Subjects covered in class: science vocabulary, lab procedures, group discussions, scientific method and scientific investigations. This position is part-time with potential for full-time. As a vital part of the SLOCA team, the Teacher is responsible for providing effective and engaging instruction in line with the classical tradition and unique qualities of the school. The Teacher is to provide a safe, dynamic environment for students and is to build and lead supportive partnerships with their students’ parents and/or caregivers. They are also to serve as active participants in the community, be contributors to the team, and embrace SLOCA’s mission, vision and core values.
