DESCRIPTION: Working under the Principal, the Director of Nursing will have the immediate responsibility of overseeing the Nurse Assistant Training Program to meet the State guidelines and requirements. Provide student instruction in the classroom and clinical site when needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific to DON duties. Oversee the collection and filing of mandatory student health forms providing results to clinical facilities, as appropriate; Meet state deadlines as indicated; Oversee collecting and submitting of CNA application (CDPH283b) and livescan forms to the California Department of Public Health upon enrollment of students; Sign appropriate state documents (CPDH283b) to verify student completion; Maintain the Nurse Assistant Training Program Schedule (CDPH276b) which combines a minimum of 50 hours of Theory (16 Modules, according to NATAP Core Curriculum) and a minimum of 100 hours of Clinical experience; Review and revise policies and procedures of the CNA program as needed; Assist with planning, organizing any new course curriculum with State approval; Assist with recruitment of and interviewing instructors;Oversee a student to clinical instructor ratio of 15:1;Communicate appropriately with Principal, clinical facilities, and nursing faculty; Attend scheduled meetings as needed; Oversee instructional delivery and content to meet State mandates; Evaluate and report on program effectiveness using objective and subjective measures; Provide effective and positive liaison between Berkeley Adult School and health care facilities and agencies; familiarity with California State and Federal regulations pertaining to Certified Nursing Assistant.
Specific to Instructor: Must clearly explain both the theoretical and practical aspects of a CNA's job, so that students will be qualified for employment in a hospital, nursing home, or long-term care facility and pass the State CNA certification exam; Possess esxcellent nursing skills, as well as the ability to communicate knowledge and experience to students; Work as part of the Adult School Career Technical Education Department team to provide nursing instruction to adults; Support students in setting short and long term goals, be sensitive to adult learner needs and able to create an effective learning environment that inspires self-confidence in students; Design informative lectures and evaluate students through assignments, clinical work, hands-on skills, and exams; Evaluate and report on program effectiveness using objective and subjective measures; Experience in delivering instruction using different sensory modalities: aural/oral, visual and tactile; Ability to teach a multi-level class using differentiated instruction; Track and transition students to further education, training or employment; Demonstrated experience working with students with recent high school experience and adults of diverse backgrounds; Submit a report of the total number of hours of training the student received in both theory and clinical and the related skills achieved at the completion or termination of a student's training; Accurately and punctually submit all electronic and print forms and information needed for attendance accounting and grade reporting;Provide effective and positive liaison between Berkeley Adult School and health care facilities and agencies; Attend staff, department, and other meetings as shall be required.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training and Experience
Registered Nurse, State of California with current license to practice; Minimum of two (2) years experience as a license nurse, one (1) of which must be providing patient care in a nursing facility; Experience in working and teaching in a CNA program strongly desired. The RN must hold a valid non-emergency California Teaching credential, authorizing instruction to adults in subject area, a preliminary credential or five years experience in designated area to qualify for Adult Teaching credential, CTE credential, Adult or Vocational Education.
Other requirements: All applicants should prepare and submit a CNA modular lesson plan, with clear explanations of what technologies or methods would be used in the delivery of instruction. Possession of a valid California drivers license and/or be able to provide own transportation.

Position is for the 2015-16 school year, Monday - Friday, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and some afternoon and evening hours. Up to 17.5 hours per week, from date of hire through June 17, 2016
