          GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidate must subscribe to an Oath of Allegiance, submit to a general tuberculosis examination, be fingerprinted, complete a pre-placement physical examination, and show proof of their identity and right to work in the United States as conditions of employment. The District has adopted a drug free work place policy. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results from criminal background check and drug testing. In order to be considered qualified for a vacancy in this classification, an applicant must possess the relevant training, education and experience required, and attain placement on the eligibility list by successfully passing all examination parts pertaining to the classification. PROBATION – A new employee appointed from an eligibility list shall serve a probationary period in a class for six months or 130 days of paid service, whichever is longer, before attaining permanency in the classified service. Promotional employees shall also serve a probationary period for six months in the higher class before attaining permanency in that class. Management classes shall serve a probationary period of one year. VACATION - Classified employees earn vacation at the rate of one day per month of full-time employment. Although vacation accrues during the probationary period, it cannot be used before the employee completes the six months of probationary service. Annual vacation credits may be accumulated to a maximum of two times the number of days earned yearly. A classified employee employed less than full-time shall earn a prorated share of vacation credits. SICK LEAVE - A regular full-time classified employee on 12-month schedule shall earn paid sick leave in the amount of 12 days for each year of service. A regular classified employee employed less than full-time or less than 12 months shall earn a prorated share of sick leave credits. Unused sick leave may be accumulated without limit. HOLIDAYS – For classified employees the District recognizes 14 paid holidays throughout the calendar year, only one of which is outside the regular school year. INCOME PROTECTION - Employees working more than 20 hours per week are covered by the district's permanent disability insurance program at the rate of approximately 66 2/3% of gross pay per year until age 65. Employees working less than 20 hours per week shall not be eligible for this benefit. RETIREMENT - Employees contracted to work 20 hours per week or more shall join the Public Employee's Retirement System (PERS) and shall make appropriate contributions through the withholding process. PERS includes participation in the Social Security System and the employee pays PERS and Social Security contributions amounting to approximately 13% of their salary. Employees working less than 50% of the work week are not eligible for PERS but will pay Social Security. WORKERS' COMPENSATION - All employees are covered by the district's workers' compensation program for any injury or illness sustained in the course of employment. Medical treatment is covered without cost to the employee. Income while disabled will be 66 2/3% of the employee's average weekly pay, up to the California state maximum. FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT - For the 2015 medical plan year, full time classified employees working 20 hours per week or more will receive $1,072.81 to purchase a health plan. The remainder of the amount can be received in cash or can be used to purchase family medical insurance (spouse and/or dependents), life insurance (employee and/or family), personal accident insurance (employee only and spouse), and/or tax sheltered annuities (TSA's). The District provides for employee-only dental coverage. The District also provides an employee only life insurance coverage in the amount of $50,000. Classified employees working less than 20 hours per week are eligible to purchase any of the health and/or dental plans available at the District rate but do not receive a flexible spending account. Medical coverage is available through Kaiser and United Health Care. The dental coverage is provided by Delta Dental and includes Delta Dental PPO and Delta Dental DMO. Full time employees have the option of applying pre-tax dollars (IRS 125) for unreimbursed medical expenses, dependent premiums for life insurance or dependent medical/dental insurance or child-care. VETERANS’ PREFERENCES – Veteran's may be eligible for preference points on examinations.
