Acacia Ave. - Hemet, CA 92545 (951) 765-5100 SUBSTITUTE CUSTODIAN JOB SUMMARY Under supervision, to maintain assigned rooms, building or group of buildings, offices and service facilities in a clean, orderly and secure manner; to assist in the maintenance of grounds surrounding assigned facilities; and to do other related work as may be required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS ~ Following an assigned schedule, clean classrooms, showers and locker rooms, restrooms, shops, cafeterias, gymnasiums, offices, hall and walkways, and related facilities; sweep, mop, strip, seal, wax and polish floors; ~ Vacuum and shampoo rugs and carpets; ~ Dust, polish, and wash classroom, office furniture and woodwork; ~ Clean desks, chalkboards, trays and other classroom instructional equipment; ~ Dust and clean metal work, light fixtures and hardware; ~ Clean restrooms, including doors, mirrors, sinks, walls, floors, toilets and hardware; ~ Clean and fill dispensers and receptacles as needed; ~ Move, arrange and set up furniture and equipment in preparing classrooms, auditoriums or other activity areas for special events, activities or meetings; ~ Clean and make repairs to custodial and maintenance equipment assigned to the school or facility; ~ Do light or minor maintenance tasks to keep assigned areas operative, safe and clean; ~ Adjust shades, blinds, desks, chairs and other furniture; ~ Empty and clean trash and garbage cans and replace liners; ~ Vacuum sweep and pick up trash on walkways, concrete and blacktop surfaces immediately adjacent to the school buildings; ~ Assist in layout, marking and preparing fields for athletic events, spray insecticides and herbicides, upkeep of pool, hand water grass areas and spot paint as necessary; ~ Open up or lock and secure windows, doors and gates; ~ Inspect buildings and grounds for broken equipment or vandalism and report unsafe conditions or needed repairs or maintenance; ~ Participate in thorough cleaning of school facilities and furniture; ~ Pick up litter and debris on walkways, grass and blacktop areas. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS KNOWLEDGE OF ~ Basic cleaning methods; ~ Use and application of cleaning materials, chemicals and equipment; ~ Basic work practices related to custodial work. ABILITY TO: ~ Learn and follow established cleaning methods, schedules and ~ Use or learn to use custodial equipment and supplies efficiently, properly and safely; ~ Write routine reports; ~ Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ~ Add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s; ~ Respond appropriately to directions and changes in work setting; ~ Organize tasks, set priorities, maintain establish pace; ~ Work with minimal supervision; ~ Perform repetitive tasks; ~ Follow work & safety procedures, written & verbal instructions, and schedules; ~ Perform minor non-technical and limited skill repair work independently; ~ Understand and carry out simple oral and written directions; ~ Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with those contacted during the course of work. EDUCATION High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and possession of the knowledge and abilities listed above. EXPERIENCE Some experience involved with the care and cleaning of buildings and facilities. REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES ~ If required to operate a vehicle in the performance of duties, operator must possess an appropriate California Driver's License. ~ Have an acceptable driving record and maintain possession of such valid license; ~ Must be insurable at standard rates by District's insurance carrier and maintain such insurability during the course of employment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position must perform in carrying out the essential job function listed below. Physical Demands: Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Manual dexterity to operate business related equipment and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job; Sit, look down, turn neck(frequently); Walk, stand, bend, stoop, reach, twist (occasionally); squat, kneel, push, pull, climb stairs(infrequently); Lift & carry items to 10 pounds(occasionally), to 25 pounds (infrequently); grasp/manipulate materials and supplies(frequently); Use seeing, hearing & speaking (continuously) Working Conditions: Include: indoor classrooms, outdoor school yard & grounds. EMPLOYMENT STATUS Substitute Position. October 2002 All applicants are subject to a fingerprint clearance (at applicant’s expense) through the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation (DOJ/FBI). Authorization for employment will not be granted until the fingerprint clearance from DOJ/FBI has been accepted. This process takes approximately two (2) to five (5) working days.
