DEFINITION:

Under close supervision of the Site Coordinator, provide homework assistance; provide assistance with curriculum driven fun learning activities; and provide assistance with enrichment and recreation activities such as sports, games, arts and crafts, cooking, dance and drama, etc. to a group of 14 – 20 students.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Carry out the sites’ planned program of activities for students; Select a variety of activities appropriate to students of various ages; Review program plans with site coordinator, teacher and literacy coach for effective program implementation; Participate in and evaluate the effectiveness of activities and events; Instruct students in safe and proper use of supplies and equipment; Assist with developing discipline techniques and classroom management; Participate in cleaning and maintaining the facility and equipment; Inspect site for potential safety hazards and making recommendations or take corrective action to prevent injuries; Provide quality interaction with parents, students, teachers and school staff; Ensure measurable improvement in students’ academic and social performance; Prepare weekly lesson plans and monthly calendars; Participate in staff meetings and trainings; Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of: Needs and behaviors of school age youths; Leadership and motivational techniques; Record keeping systems and methods; Safety rules and precautions associated with a variety of activities and programs.

Ability to: Motivate and maintain the interest of school aged children; Organize and conduct various educational and recreational activities; Enforce rules and regulations; Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Supervise small groups of school aged children; Work as a member of a team.

Education: High school diploma or GED.

Experience: Minimum of two years experience working with school aged children.

Other Requirements: Must submit fingerprints and pass clearance.
