School Counselor (Restorative Practices ), Prevention and Intervention at Fresno Unified School District
Requirements / Qualifications
Restorative Practices School Counselors are coordinated centrally from the Department of Prevention & Intervention, leading designated sites in the process of becoming “restorative schools.” These positions are a blended model of schoolwide culture/climate system-building and coaching staff; in addition to direct services for students and families. In the transformational shift from the traditional school culture and discipline paradigm, Restorative Practices School Counselors provide site-based professional learning, modeling, and coaching of strategies and processes that are restorative (such as circles, mediation, conferencing and other innovative practices). Because restorative schools are based on the understanding that strong, positive relationships among all stakeholders are central to building community and to creating the optimum conditions for teaching and learning, these Counselors therefore practice using the values of care, mutual respect, engagement and empowerment. Restorative Practices School Counselors work with a multi-tier focus, requiring skills and knowledge in building and supporting universal, targeted and intensive approaches using existing FUSD programs such as: Safe & Civil Schools/PBIS; CHAMPS classroom management; Olweus Bullying Prevention; Second Step, and other social emotional learning and character development resources.
California's fourth-largest school district with an enrollment of more than 73,000 students is making huge strides in preparing career-ready graduates. Guided by the Board of Education's Core Beliefs that all students can and must learn at grade level and beyond, the district is gaining momentum to boost student achievement. Fresno Unified School District is seeking dynamic, dedicated and motivated individuals. Individuals need to be committed to continuous improvement, results driven and eager to work in a diverse community. We are committed to creating a culture where: - Diversity is Valued - Accelerated Learning for Each Student is Key - Good First Teaching is the Focus - Collaborating with Civic Leaders Positively Impacts the Community. Applicants must complete a on-line management application and attach a cover letter, resume, two current MANAGEMENT LETTERS OF SUPPORT by the closing date. One letter of support MUST be from a current or previous supervisor. The FUSD Letter of Support FORM, which resembles a questionnaire form, is attached at the bottom of the FUSD posting. Please view this mandatory form.
