Description: Summit Public Schools is an innovative organization that leverages next generation learning to support students in being successful in college and beyond. Denali is one of Summit’s two middle schools and serves 6th-8th grade students in the Sunnyvale area. 

At Denali, the Wellness and Student Resource Instructor contributes to Summit’s mission in three important ways. Firstly, the instructor works closely with a small group of students as a mentor providing personalized support for both academics and socio-emotional growth. 
Secondly, the instructor co-designs and implements the school-wide wellness program in collaboration with Summit Denali faculty. 
Finally, the instructor will support students with diverse learning needs through a variety of interventions under the guidance of the school’s Special Education team.
Duties: Under the direction of a certificated teacher, assist in providing instruction to individual or small groups of students in an assigned special education program; monitor and report student progress regarding behavior and performance; collaborate with the school team to design a comprehensive wellness program for all students; under the supervision of certified teachers, implement the wellness program including physical education instruction; mentor a small group of students by building strong relationships through regular check-ins, communication with families, and consistent support; perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Education required: 
Any combination equivalent to graduation with a bachelor's degree.
Candidate must also have certification in CPR/First Aid, Concussion Training, and the Fundamentals of Coaching as established by the NFHS. Alternative/commonly accepted certifications from other bodies (recognized as equivalent for California high school coaching requirements) will be accepted. 

Experience required: 
At least one year of experience in working with children in an organized setting. 

Skills required: 
Knowledge of child guidance principles and practices, especially as they relate to special education students; problems and concerns of students with special needs. Knowledge of and passion for supporting wellness in young people particularly in terms of physical activity. 
Ability to: assist with instruction and related activities in an assigned special education program; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; operate instructional and office equipment.
