Job Summary: 

The Special Education Facilitator is responsible for organizing, facilitating, and supporting the schools special education requirements both at administrative and instructional levels. The Special Education Facilitator is expected to exhibit the same skills, knowledge, and qualities required of the general classroom teachers in the areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, classroom management, professional responsibilities and relationships, family involvement, and school community. This position is for 11 months.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Employee is expected to report to the NVVA Office (8965 S. Eastern Ave, Suite 330, Las Vegas, NV 89123), Monday-Friday, from 7:30-4:00 pm.
  • Support, mentor and model best practice instructional strategies and techniques.
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to improving student achievement.
  • Effectively communicate procedures and best practices to staff through weekly meetings.
  • Inform administrator of special education concerns/issues that may be supervisory in nature.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively assist special education staff in using the electronic IEP and SPED management system as a learning, information, collaboration and communication tool.
  • Demonstrate ability to assist team, administration, and professional staff and support staff with the effective implementation of federal, state and local mandates.
  • Assure that students with disabilities are receiving appropriate education.
  • Assist parents in problem solving and acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills to support the development and implementation of their child’s IEP.
  • Provide school staff with information on positive behavioral supports and other effective teaching techniques.
  • Monitor, on a regularly scheduled basis, all confidential folders and IEPs to ensure completeness and compliance as per state regulations.
  • Assure confidentiality and organization or records through observable procedures consistent with administrative directives.
  • Collaborate with counseling staff/administration to assure proper class scheduling.
  • Assist IEP teams in the development and implementation of the Transition plans.
  • Ability to effectively use, and training staff to use, the electronic IEP and Special Education Management System.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities.  Remain current with educational trends and implement new strategies effectively.
  • Meet evaluation domain expectations
  • Other duties as assigned

 Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (B.A) from four-year college or university; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates and Licenses:

Candidates possess a Nevada Teaching license as Generalist or other equivalent and meet Highly Qualified status under NCLB

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software; spreadsheet software; Internet software, database software, recording and reporting grades electronically.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
