Millennium Charter High School is growing and will be adding positions in the 2015-16 school year. If you think a small charter high school focused on the Digital Media Arts is where you'd like to be next year, then get your application in now. In April we will be holding a lottery for our students because there are not enough spaces to meet the demand. The same will be true of teaching positions. Millennium Charter High School (MCHS) is an independent, direct-funded public charter school with two locations: Our Main Campus at the Monterey County Office of Education (MCOE) and our Ancillary Campus at the Sherwood Community Center. Our Main Campus at MCOE features a Digital Media Lab equipped with laptop computers and state of the art editing software, a black box theater, a high-definition television studio with professional control rooms, and a radio station designed for broadcast as well as podcast production. Our Sherwood Campus has classroom and performance space, including access to the Sherwood Hall for student productions. Our Students have opportunities for Career Technical Education in the Media Arts both through the use of the studio facilities and remote broadcast vehicles. Through the Media Center for Art, Education, and Technology (MCAET) our students videotape local high school sporting events through a contract with the Monterey County Herald newspaper and Rabobank Stadium by utilizing on-site equipment and a remote broadcast truck at sporting events throughout Monterey County. MCHS’s curriculum and instruction are based on hands-on learning in the arts and technology, integrated into content areas. Students from throughout Monterey County receive college preparatory education in which the Common Core standards, Visual and Performing Arts standards, and Digital Media Arts standards are delivered through the lens of four School-wide Learner Outcomes (SLOs): • Creativity • Self-awareness • Empathy • Critical Thinking MCHS’s program fosters an academic environment in which students see the relevance and importance of their education. The school’s focus on Digital Media Arts is unique to the area. MCHS is currently both the smallest public high school and the only site-based charter high school in the county.
