Monday - Thursday: 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (1/2 hr. lunch) and

Friday: 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Job Summary:

 

SUMMARY:

 

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, coordinate a variety of functions and perform duties related to tutoring and study centers.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Organize, oversee and coordinate the operations and activities of the tutoring, math study and writing centers.

Monitor tutoring and study centers during hours of operation.

Perform specialized duties related to the tutoring, math study, and writing centers.

Compile and summarize data related to usage of tutoring and study centers.

Serve on Tutoring Advisory Committee and other committees as appropriate.

Recruit, recommend, select, train and provide work direction to assigned tutors; assign and review work; in consultation with supervisor coordinate and prepare schedules; report discipline issues to supervisor.

Operate a variety of equipment and machines including computers, printers, scantron machines, typewriters and copiers.

At direction of supervisor develop and monitor budget for tutoring center, math study center, and writing center; monitor expenditures and prepare projections as directed, develop and maintain system to account for all expenditures.

 

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

 

Prepare informational documents related to Learning Skills operations.

Prepare and maintain a variety of records and files related to tutoring, math study and writing centers and implement and monitor related procedures.

Compile information and prepare a variety of reports related to tutoring, math study and writing centers.

Coordinate publicity for tutoring, math study and writing centers; provide information to students about Learning Skills services; present workshops to faculty and staff; present in-service tutoring workshops.

Communicate as needed with various district departments and personnel, local high schools, colleges and other outside organizations; attend various meetings as requested by supervisor.

Communicate with Information Systems personnel regarding tracking of student usage of services in tutoring center, math study center, and writing center.

Perform related duties as assigned.  

Minimum Qualifications:

 

EDUCATION:

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Two years of college level course work or equivalent in area of assignment with specialized course work in subject area(s) of assignment, office coordination or related field.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Two years increasingly responsible experience in tutoring center environments.

 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Specialized functions and operations of college tutoring and skills centers.

Tutoring techniques.

Basic evaluation techniques.

Oral and written communication skills.

Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

Recordkeeping techniques.

Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.

Principles and practices of training and providing work direction.

Operation of a computer terminal.

 

ABILITY TO:

Perform specialized duties related to tutoring, writing centers, and math study center functions of a college.

Gather data.

Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.

Train and provide work direction to others.

Assign and review the work of others.

Operate a variety of equipment, including computers, Scantron machines, and various software packages to enter and retrieve data using keyboarding skills in an efficient and effective manner consistent with requirements of the position.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Maintain records and prepare reports.

Work independently with little direction.

Plan and organize work.

Work confidentially with discretion.

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
