POSITION DESCRIPTION: WAREHOUSE/UTILITY PERSON
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Warehouse Supervisor, assist the District warehouse personnel with a variety of warehouse functions, including but not limited to driving a District vehicle to pick up and deliver mail, supplies, food and equipment to District sites.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drive a delivery truck or van to designated District sites to deliver and pick up District mail, food containers, supplies and equipment; pick up items from vendors as directed
- Load and unload trucks; operate a fork lift and pallet jack; stack pallets and store material according to proper and established procedures
- Restock food supplies and materials as directed; maintain warehouse, freezers, trucks in a clean, safe and orderly condition
- Fill warehouse requisitions for food and supplies; move and arrange stock as directed
- Assure proper postage on mail and parcels; deliver and pick up mail from local post office
- Perform daily District warehouse activities such as filling orders, and shipping and receiving; mark and label received goods for identification purposes; store stock in warehouse according to established procedures
- Notify appropriate personnel regarding shipment shortages, damages or other discrepancies
- Maintain records of shipping and receiving activities
- Assist warehouse personnel at warehouse surplus inventory auctions as necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade
KNOWLEDGE OF: Basic modern warehousing methods and procedures for receiving, shipping and issuing materials; proper and orderly storage and stock inventory procedures; proper methods of storing food, materials and supplies; operation and routine maintenance of motor vehicle; proper safety practices; basic warehouse procedures; proper methods of handling, packaging, wrapping and shipping packages; traffic and safety laws; lifting techniques; health and safety regulations; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; operation and use of hand and power tools and equipment
ABILITY TO: Participate in daily delivery functions and activities; receive, store, pick up and distribute mail, food, supplies and materials; operate a delivery vehicle, fork lift, pallet jack and related warehouse equipment safely; lift and move equipment, materials and supplies; read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures; understand and follow oral and written directions; work cooperatively with others; perform heavy physical labor; lift heavy objects; meet schedules and timeliness; observe health and safety regulations; observe legal and defensive driving practices; work cooperatively with others
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Indoor and outdoor environment. Position requires heavy lifting, standing for long periods of time, bending and heavy physical labor. May be exposed to traffic hazards and adverse weather conditions.
LICENSES REQUIRED: Valid California Driver’s License. Good driving record required.
Fingerprinting/Physical: Fingerprint clearance will be required and conviction records will be checked. Cost of fingerprinting is $69.00 (FBI and DOJ) will be the responsibility of the appointee. Must pass pre-employment physical with back x-ray. School district will assume responsibility for cost of physical.
Tuberculosis Test (TB): Certificate showing proof of being free from active tuberculosis will be required.
OTHER CHARACTERISTICS: Must have an acceptable driving record, be insurable under the District’s insurance coverage, and work without constant supervision.
