KIPP LA operates eleven schools – five elementary and six middle schools – and serves more than 4,000 students. Our annual consolidated operating budget is approximately $60 million. By 2020, KIPP LA will grow to 20 schools serving more than 10,000 students.

 

Job Overview

The Data Analyst will be part of the Academics team and will report to the Senior Data Analyst.  S/he will play an integral role in the data team’s effort to efficiently and effectively support the expanding number of KIPP schools in Los Angeles and the School Support Center through building and maintaining the data warehouse, automating data processes, and providing access to data analysis and reports that will allow staff to make decisions in the best interest of our students. S/he will maintain a largely project-based and dynamic workflow with a wide array of responsibilities, including data analysis, automated and ad hoc data report creation, and data systems integration and automation.

 

Essential Functions

With support from the Senior Data Analyst, the Data Analyst will be responsible for:

 

Data Analysis

?      Apply appropriate statistical methods and analysis tools to analyze student data in response to data requests and strategic priorities

?      Work with schools to plan and prioritize short-term and long-term analytics needs

?      Complete ad hoc data analysis requests in a timely and efficient manner

?      Create analysis reports/dashboards for various stakeholders in Tableau, Google Apps, MS Excel or other tools as requested

?      Write SQL queries to auto-populate data dashboards and reports via direct connection to KIPP LA’s data warehouse

?      Work with Senior Data Analyst to build out a new analytics website

?      Conduct user experience research to design sustainable and user-friendly dashboards and website

?      Continue professional development on Tableau

 

Data Warehouse Integration and Automation

?      Manage data integration to and from KIPP LA’s SQL Server. Data sources include, but are not limited to: Illuminate, various blended learning programs, Salesforce, MealTime, HR database, Excel Spreadsheets, etc.

?      Work with vendors to set-up automatic and ad-hoc provisioning of student accounts

?      Work with schools and the Instructional Technology Specialist to maintain student accounts

?      Write queries and batch commands to create flat files and automate scheduled exports into File Transfer Protocols 

 

Requirements

?      Bachelor’s Degree required

?      Minimum of two years’ work experience preferred

?      Ability and proven track record for managing and analyzing large datasets

?      Knowledge of statistical methods of analyzing data

?      Knowledge of visualization best practices

?      Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel required

?      Experience with Business Intelligence tools a plus (Tableau, Qlikview, Microstrategy, etc.)

?      Database management experience a plus

?      Scripting experience a plus, but willingness to learn required (SQL, R, Python, Batch, JavaScript, HTML, etc.)

?      Google Apps experience a plus

?      High attention to detail

?      Ability to quickly learn new skills
