THE POSITION
Substitute teachers provide large and small group instruction in juvenile court schools, schools providing alternative education and in the Division of Special Education. The substitute teacher position in the Division of Special Education serves mild/moderate to severely disabled students, students who are deaf and hard of hearing as well as the visually impaired.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree for a regionally accredited college or university.
Pass the Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST).
Experience working with at-risk/high-risk students or students with special needs.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS
The Division of Student Programs encompasses both Juvenile Court Schools and Alternative Education.

Student Programs (JCS) serves wards of the court in juvenile halls, probation camps, and residential community facilities. These fully accredited schools provide instruction, in all subjects, in the middle school and high school curriculum. Substitutes may teach from two to six subjects a day.

Student Programs (AE) serves at-risk and high-risk students in non-traditional settings in the community. Many of the two- or three-teacher sites are located in strip malls or other leased locations. DAE also operates two specialized high schools; one on the campuses of Cal Poly Pomona, the other on the CSU Los Angeles campus.

The Division of Special Education (DSE) operates programs to serve the needs of mild/moderate to severely disabled students. These students may require assistance with toileting and specialized health care procedures. Every DSE classroom has at least one Para educator (instructional assistant) to provide support to the teacher. DSE also operates programs serving students who are Visual Impaired or designated as Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

SCHOOL SITES

We operate programs throughout Los Angeles County for both divisions.

ASSIGNMENTS

Substitute teachers may elect to work in particular programs and/or geographic area.

Assignments are made through an automated/computerized system.
