The Institution:
Founded in 1916, Sacramento City College (SCC) is a multi-campus urban college that consists of a 70-acre main campus across from William Land Park located in the heart of the Sacramento metropolitan area. The college also maintains two educational centers, one in Davis on the campus of the University of California, Davis, and one in West Sacramento located adjacent to the public library, community center, and civic center. The college is a vibrant teaching and learning center with approximately 23,000 day and evening students and is now recognized as both a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI).

SCC is a place of rich tradition and history, with a contemporary vitality and diversity that provides technologically updated classrooms and offers a variety of class schedules to meet student needs. SCC awards Associate in Arts or Science degrees as well as Associate Degrees for Transfer, which guarantee transfer into the California State University system. The college offers Career Technical Education certificates and degrees, transfer credit for students who desire to continue their education at a four-year college or university, and instruction in basic skills such English, English as second language, and mathematics.

Position Summary:
General Responsibilities: 
The Public Services Librarian shall be responsible for the following: helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; maintaining thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her regular teaching field; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with curriculum and articulation studies; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities as outlined in the college faculty handbook.

Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Dean, Learning Resources and in collaboration with the other librarians, the Public Services Librarian shall: 
• Provide reference and information services to students and staff.
• Provide library instruction in a variety of settings.
• Maintain up-to-date instruction materials for library resources, including print and online publications and services. 
• Select materials in subject areas for print and electronic collections.
• Utilize current and emerging technology in reference and instruction duties.

The Public Services Librarian may: 
• Instruct students in credit courses; coordinate library reference services; develop training for librarians and library support staff.
• Develop, coordinate, and assess library instruction and information competency programs for students and faculty.
• Develop and coordinate programs to market library resources and services to students and faculty. 
• Assignment may include day, evening, and weekend hours.

These assignments may be reallocated periodically, and assignments may depend on the interests and qualifications of the library faculty.

Additioinal Responsibilities:
The Sacramento City College Library maintains a focus on:
• Integrating and coordinating library services with other campus programs, services and constituencies.
• Active and effective outreach and marketing of library services to a diverse community college population.
• The collection and analysis of data in the service of improving library services.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Have a master's degree from an accredited institution, completed by August 20, 2015, in Library Science or Library and Information Science ; OR, hold a California Community College Instructor's Credential in discipline area; OR, the equivalent.* 

2. Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.

* Note: Applicants applying under the "equivalent" provision must attach details and explain how their academic preparation is equivalent of the degree listed above.

Beginning and/or Ending Dates:
Full-time, Tenure-track Position 
Beginning on or about August 20, 2015.

Conditions:
All Positions: Offers of employment are contingent upon the successful clearance from a criminal background check, freedom from tuberculosis, and proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States prior to the first day of work. The District may select additional qualified candidates should unexpected vacancies or needs occur during this recruitment/selection process. When education is a requirement for the position, official academic transcripts from the accredited college/university must be submitted within 60 days of hire.

Administrative/Executive/Faculty Positions: Contingent on funding and eligibility, successful candidates selected for an interview may be eligible to apply for partial reimbursement of travel expenses.

Administrative/Executive Positions: Administrative positions may be subject to the District's Conflict of Interest Code, and a statement of economic interest is required within thirty (30) days following appointment to the position. Management/Executive positions are exempt from overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Additional Salary Information:
Entering annual salary within a given range varies, depending upon units and degrees completed at accredited colleges/universities and on verified experience. Additional earnings may be available for summer, overloads, and stipends.
