Mirus is an educational option for students in grades 7-12. Its instructional design is based on a “University Model”. Students work independently and attend labs, or tutorial 1-2 times a week. Students come at scheduled times; no more than 20 students on site at one time. The course of study is based on the California State Framework.

Mirus is seeking competent, energetic, student-centered educators with good resource center management and organizational skills, who understand adolescents, are able to motivate students, set high expectations, welcome accountability, and are good team players.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have the outstanding ability to engage and motivate students toward success; knowledge and experience with curriculum and teaching strategies; ability to facilitate learning and develop individualized education plans; counseling and facilitation skills; thrive on challenge, autonomy, and accountability; excellent organization, time management, and record keeping skills; experience with special student populations: at risk, gifted, learning handicapped, ESL, etc.; be creative and resourceful; possess computer skills; the ability to administer the complex operation of a resource center. Math, Science and Technology skills are in great demand, but applicants in all subject areas are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications include CA single- or multi-subject credential and experience teaching or counseling 7th-12th grade students. Valid California driver license and transportation required.

Position Responsibilities:
• Improve each student’s ability to read, write, compute, speak, and problem solve; monitor and document this progress through a variety of assessment techniques.
• Implement the educational program required of Mirus
• Upon completion of the personal education plan assessment, undertake those activities that result in the student achieving his/her academic and career goals.
• Create and maintain a community outreach effort to engage students, parents/guardians, residents, feed school communities, counselors, health and social service providers, neighborhood businesses, partnerships and alliances, and community based organizations. This active engagement will be achieved by documented home, school, and community visitation, telephone calls, personal conferences, letters, etc.
• Select, orient, provide leadership and supervise assistants and volunteers.
• Maintain compliance with resource center budgets, including expenses and student work product, protect and account for resource center assets.
• Perform accurate and timely accounting of student activities, i.e., master agreements, course contracts, continuums, portfolios, credit reports, contact logs, intervention sheets, and other documents deemed necessary for compliance.
• Demonstrate evidence of team building, collaboration, creative problem solving, flexibility, conflict resolution, cultural sensitivity, and genuine care for each student.
• Other duties as assigned.

The learning environment, located in store-fronts throughout the city, is professional, clean, safe and well-equipped with curriculum resources, teacher & student laptops, desktop computers, wireless networks, and high-speed T-1 Internet access in each classroom. SELECTION PROCEDURE: Selected applicants will be interviewed by a panel of teachers and will complete work-styles/behavior survey and math quiz. Candidates who successfully complete this phase of process will be interviewed by Altus Directors. Teaching assignments may be for morning, afternoon, or early evening.
