ALTA LOMA SCHOOL DISTRICT PLAYGROUND PROCTOR DEFINITION Under supervision, to perform a variety of basic student supervision of playground and lunch area activities, and to do other related work as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES • Assists in the management of student behavior through the use of positive strategies and techniques. • Supervises designated areas as assigned by the principal during non-instructional times, with particular attention being given to the health, safety, and conduct of the children involved. • Assists in the planning, organizing, and conducting playground and/or noon activities. • Supervises and assists in the routine clean-up of student lunch areas • Writes discipline referrals and distributes to the appropriate persons in accordance with established procedure. • Directs students into safe activities and functions, and assists in the shaping of appropriate social behaviors. • Assists students in the operation of a variety of equipment. • Stores and maintains an appropriate inventory of playground materials, supplies, and equipment. • Maintains a safe playground environment. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Basic concepts of child growth and development, and developmental behavior characteristics; Student behavior management strategies and techniques; basic knowledge of first aid. Ability to: Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups; Communicate effectively in oral and written form in English, and if required by the assignment, a second language. Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults. Learn specific rules and safety procedures of the assigned school. Maintain simple records, such as incident reports for occurrences on the school grounds. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying.
