Summary Description

The teaching assignment will include Introductory Chemistry, General Chemistry and/or Organic Chemistry.

 

Examples of Duties

The teaching responsibilities include a regular load of lecture-lab courses scheduled during the day, evening, or weekend as needed; and performance of institutional responsibilities including holding office hours, participating in committees, developing curriculum, selecting text, advising students, and other related activities.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

1) Master’s in chemistry OR Bachelor’s in chemistry or biochemistry AND Master’s in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, physics, molecular biology, or geochemistry OR the equivalent.

 

2)Experience that indicates a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities

 

Desired Qualifications

 

Ability to teach and develop curriculum in Introductory Chemistry, General Chemistry, Introductory Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Organic Chemistry courses.

 

The equivalent of one year of full-time teaching experience at the postsecondary level.

 

Ability to work effectively and professionally with colleagues.

 

Skills and experience to motivate students from a broad spectrum of cultural, socioeconomic and language backgrounds.

 

A strong commitment to remain current in the field of Chemistry and its instruction.

 

Knowledge of and experience in the Chemistry applications of computers and the use of computers and other technology in instruction.

 

Knowledge of or experience in developing and implementing effective teaching strategies.

 

 

Salary and Benefits:

Starting salary annual salary $48,320.88 to $78,443.26 for 177 days of service, plus family medical, dental, and vision coverage and employee life insurance (employee contribution depends upon plan selected.) STRS Retirement (employee contributes 8.15%).
