POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Mental Health Counselor will serve on the Element working groups for Element 4: Mental Health Services. The Counselor will work closely with the Mental Health Liaison and be responsible to provide counseling services to students and parents to assist the pupils in making appropriate decisions relative to school program and relationship with other pupils, teachers, parents and administrators. The Mental Health Counselor will be expected to provide direct services to students. Hours may also be provided by Therapeutic Counseling Interns, under the direct supervision of the Mental Health Counselor.

DUTIES:
• Work under the supervision of the Project Coordinator.
• Maintain data/records of all students provided mental health counseling services.
• The Mental Health Counselor is expected to develop and implement parenting workshops for families of ERUSD students.
• Provide group and individual counselling to at- risk students in alternative school settings, such as APEX (and any other alternative program, such as those offered to pregnant teens).
• Participate in all trainings and meetings related to these programs, as needed.
• Share and report service hours and records to the Mental Health Liaison, School Site administrators and Project Director.
• Identify students in need of additional mental health services, and refer them to outside mental health providers for additional services such as psychiatric evaluation, or day treatment services.
• Work closely with outside mental health providers.
• Work closely with Registered nurse to provide pre and postnatal home visits to teen mothers who may benefit from mental health services or referrals to mental health agencies.
• Provide prevention and intervention services for at risk students, including ages 0-5.
• Work closely with the School community liaison in facilitating and coordinating the relationship between the Early Childhood programs, Mental Health Services and ERUSD.
• Additional activities and responsibilities as agreed to and in conjunction with the Mental Health Liaison, Project Coordinator for the SS/HS grant and the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience working with students and families in supportive role.
• Excellent written and oral skills.
• Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver’s License.
• Ability to relate positively with children.
• Willingness and ability to collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators and grant management team.
• Strong Organizational Skills.
• Flexible, adaptable, able to bring groups together for a common goal.
• A working knowledge of computer technology including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Experience working with mental health agencies and service providers.
• Bilingual desirable (Spanish/English)

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
• Pupil Personnel Services School Counseling Credential
• California State Mental Health License authorizing the delivery of therapeutic services (i.e. Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker).

Pupil Personnel Services Credential: School Counseling preferred, and a California State Mental Health License authorizing the delivery or therapeutic services (i.e., Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker).

ASSIGNMENT: 10 Month, 195 days per school year. THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION FOR THE DURATION OF THE GRANT. All required documents must be attached to your application file. Applications missing any of the required documents will be screened out.
