Requirements / Qualifications

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Administers to pupils, (on an individual basis), intelligence tests, achievement tests, personality tests, and tests to measure perceptual and motor development. Evaluates and interprets tests and makes recommendations for school and class placements, as appropriate. Interprets test findings to parents, counsels with parents regarding pupil’s potential, achievement level, and personality adjustment; recommends to parents ways of helping pupil or recommends sources from which they may seek further assistance. Confers with teachers, administrators, guidance counselors, and other professional staff on results of individual tests and helps them in their efforts to better understand and educate each pupil. Consults with other agencies, both public and private, and other psychologists, and physicians for the purpose of correlating all available information regarding individual pupils. Make recommendations in cases of exemption, non-promotion, acceleration and other cases upon request. Counsels individual pupils following assessment regarding test findings, academic problems, social or emotional problems and general vocational goals. Strives toward the accomplishment of district-adopted goals and objectives. Assists in evaluation of special education teachers in concert with other Administrators and performs other duties as assigned. Assists in crisis team member selection and training in addition to being a member of the team. Assist in student study team-training activities as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Completion of a Master’s Degree or higher including all courses needed to meet credential requirements. Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of successful classroom teaching or counseling experience is required. Credential: Pupil Personnel Services Credential with the Authorization to serve as a Psychologist. Knowledge: Ability to meet State standards of physical and mental health, plus the following qualifications preferred by the District. Must possess mature judgment, have desirable grooming and personality, be able to provide effective leadership.
