EOP&S/CARE COUNSELOR – 202 DAY

SALARY: $61,656 - $95,099/YR. (Initial placement will not be higher than the above listed salary, the top step for this position is Class VI, Step 19 which is $118,252 /YR.)

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Under the direction and supervision of the EOPS-CARE Director/Dean of Student Services, or designee, the EOPS-CARE Counselor provides academic, career, personal, and crisis counseling; assesses placement tests; develops educational plans; guides students through basic skills, general education, and transfer coursework; implements an academic progress report and follow-up process; facilitates support for the EOPS-CARE students and collaborates with the implementation of the Student Success and Support Program from a categorical program perspective; and, works closely and collaboratively with the EOPS-CARE Supervisor and staff.
COUNSELOR RELATED - ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Provide above and beyond academic, career, personal and social counseling to a low-income, diversified student population within the EOPS and CARE programs.
• Assist program students with academic and vocational advising, understanding academic regulations, self-exploration, decision making, educational and career planning and establishing appropriate AA/AS, transfer, and vocational certificate goals.
• In collaboration with all EOPS-CARE Supervisor, staff and other Counselor(s), assist with student recruitment and serve as a liaison with the feeder high school(s) within the Yuba-Sutter area, as assigned.
• Assist in developing programs and services which will attract and retain EOPS and CARE students.
• Assist with the college-wide implementation of activities necessary to carry-out the goals and objectives of EOP&S-CARE.
• Provide feedback to the Dean of Student Services, or designee concerning student needs and outcomes.
• Serve as a liaison between the Financial Aid Office and EOPS-CARE for the benefit of the students served by these programs, as well as feeder high schools and Community groups.
• Assist with the development of delivery systems using technology for above and beyond and alternative student services.
• Work with students to develop individual Educational Plans, organize and implement follow-up services and/or workshops for those students who have not yet decided on a career.
• Maintain currency on emerging markets, careers & labor market information & provide information to other Student Services staff.
• Assist in the development and implementation of Degree Audit and electronic Educational Plan.
• Participate in Program Review, SLO development and assessment.
• Learn and become proficient in the use of Track Data and Curricunet.
• Develop individual and group counseling processes to assist students in making decisions regarding AS/AA, transfer, and vocational goals and academic programs.
• Aid students in resolving personal problems that may adversely affect their achievement.
• Assist students on probation in overcoming academic deficiencies and developing plans for improving performance.
• Assist students in identifying, examining, evaluating and selecting personal and educational goals.
• Assist with training of EOPS-CARE program staff and student employees.
• Work in collaboration with other Student Services programs to coordinate and avoid duplication of services.
• Administer and interpret interest inventories and study skills assessment tests to include the dissemination of results back to students.
• Assist in compiling and entering all required statistical data.
• Teach Counseling classes each semester as assigned.
• Provide crisis counseling as assigned.
• Make referrals to other counselors, managers, faculty members, student personnel services (e.g. Financial Aid, Career Center, Academic Skills Center and social service agencies) as appropriate.
REQUIRED DUTIES: Selected persons must maintain a flexible work schedule which allows for off-campus assignments and be enthusiastically capable of adapting to the various conditions and demands of the EOPS – CARE programs. Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnical backgrounds of community college students.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: EOPS Counselors are those persons designated by the community college to serve as academic counselors in the EOPS program and must possess:
• A Community College Counselor Credential OR
• Possess a master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinic al psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development,
• OR the equivalent AND have completed a minimum of nine (9) semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or per sons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantage OR have completed six (6) semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses in a community college EOP&S program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language social, or economic disadvantages AND have two (2) years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages.
EQUIVALENCY: Applicants must meet YCCD minimum qualifications by the filing date or have been awarded equivalency by the District prior to the publication of the Recruitment Announcement.

BENEFITS/SALARY: The District offers a comprehensive benefits package for employees and dependent, valued at over $18,000 annually with a $178.50 monthly out of pocket expense to employees or dependents for monthly premiums. The package includes health, dental, vision, two (2) life insurance policies and an Employee Assistance program. Additional benefits include contributions to the State Teacher’s Retirement System (STRS), 457/403b options, 10 sick days and a 202 day contract.
