RESOURCE SPECIALIST
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Provides an educational program for students identified by the School Appraisal Team (S.A.T.) as having exceptional needs; but who are assigned to regular classroom teachers for a majority of the school day. Confers frequently with parents and professional staff members on each pupil’s progress. Responsible for the diagnosis and remediation of students with learning disorders, including the development and implementation of an Individualized Educational Plan (I.E.P.). The assigned caseload shall not exceed 24 pupils at any given period. The Resource Specialist shall provide supervision of an instructional aide.
MAJOR DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:
-Is responsible to the Director of Pupil Personnel Services and the local supervision of the site administrator.
-Coordinates and chairs all School Appraisal Team (S.A.T.) functions (i.e. referrals, assessments, placements, and other related duties).
-Is responsible for the identification of students with special needs, and the development and implementation of an individualized educational plan for all students admitted to the resource specialist program.
-Is responsible for referring to the Educational Assessment Services all students not making adequate progress in the resource specialist program.
-Is responsible for supervising at least one full time resource specialist aide.
-Is responsible for developing appropriate behavioral management strategies.
-Is responsible for administering appropriate assessment tools for identifying, placing, and evaluating students referred to SAT.
-Shall provide appropriate materials and media for regular classroom instruction as needed.
-Responsible for providing appropriate instructions or resources (one-to-one, small group, regular classroom) as prescribed in the I.E.P.
-Shall maintain a caseload not to exceed 24 at any one period.
-Develops weekly lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy and curriculum of the District.
-Provides students with the opportunity to partake in daily patriotic observance. Education Code 52720.
-Monitors classroom environment ensuring that clean and safe conditions exist, notifying principal of any unclean or unsafe classroom conditions.
-Monitors classroom activities making students responsible for putting materials, supplies, tools, etc., safely and neatly away at the end of class session.
CREDENTIAL:
-Special Education Credential/minimal B.A. degree.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-Three or more years full time teaching experience.
-Completed or enrolled in an advances preparation program in special education.
-Demonstrates interpersonal skills, which will facilitate joint problem solving and stimulate sharing of skills and resources.
-Demonstrates skills in effective communication with parents and staff.
-Demonstrates skills in dealing with conflicts.
-Demonstrates knowledge of due process procedures and their implementation.
-Ability to recognize the need for student services beyond the scope of the Resource Specialist program.
