EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Bachelor’s Degree with a valid California Teaching Credential (Moderate/Severe or SH) with authorization to cover autism spectrum. Rocklin Professional Teacher’s Association/CTA membership dues or service fee will be required.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Teaching experience at grade level; Master's Degree and/or post graduate course work.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The teacher works under the immediate supervision and direction of principal. The teacher serves individuals with communication disabilities, providing a program and instruction to promote cognitive, academic, communication and language, behavioral and social, and physical development.
SUPERVISOR: Director of Special Education and Special Programs
TYPICAL DUTIES: Same as K-12 teacher. Diagnoses special needs and develops program instruction for individual learners. Instructs individuals and groups. Plans, administers, and interprets student evaluations, preparing written reports as required. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with parents, guardians, and significant others. Meets with parents on a regular basis to review student progress and work on individual education-related issues. Works closely with other members of the program staff to develop and maintain curriculum and standards. Coordinates program with mainstream staff. Participates in development of behavioral intervention plans. Works cooperatively with personnel from the student’s district of residence and/or outside agencies providing services to the student and family. Participates in professional growth activities such as conferences, classes, staff meetings, and visitations. Provides training, direction, and supervision for assigned ancillary staff. Modifies environment to accommodate for student’s disabilities. Requisitions materials and supplies in a timely manner. Maintains attendance accounting submitting this and other required reports in a timely fashion. Complies with the rules and regulations set forth in the California Education Code, Title V, and Procedures and Policies of the district. Provides instruction and services as indicated on Individual Educational Plans for assigned pupils. Has knowledge in subject areas and current instructional methodologies, technologies, and techniques associated with the communicatively disabled child. Has ability to teach students of a wide variety of levels and age ranges. Has ability to work effectively with parents, community, and education colleagues in and outside the program. Has ability to function as a positive, contributing member of an educational team. Has skills in administration, analysis, and interpretation of a variety of assessment measures.
DESCRIPTION OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Medical Category I
1. Position requires normal physical strength and endurance for standing, sitting, bending, or walking.
2. Work assignments are normally located in a work environment with light physical work and requires light physical effort.
3. Lifting 25 pounds maximum or carrying any object weighing over 15 pounds.
