The Institution:
The Los Rios Community College District is a two-year public college district serving the greater Sacramento region. Our district includes American River, Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake and Sacramento City colleges; major centers in Placerville, Davis, West Sacramento, Elk Grove, Natomas and Rancho Cordova; and special services for business and industry.
Our colleges offer transfer education - students complete freshman and sophomore years and transfer to a four-year college or university - and AA/AS degrees and certificates in over 70 career fields. The District's 2400 square mile service area includes Sacramento and El Dorado counties and parts of Yolo, Placer, and Solano counties. Approximately 80,000 students are enrolled in our colleges.
The District office houses a number of district-wide services. These include the Chancellor's office, Board Room, Legal Services, Business Services, Human Resources, Institutional Research, District Police Department, Resource Development and Information Technology. Other district-wide services which can be found at various locations around the community are the, Facilities Management Department and the Workforce and Economic Development Center. Each department strives for the highest quality in all programs, services, and activities for our communities and staff.
Position Summary:
Under direction, incumbent serves as lead person to a grounds crew, making work assignments for groundskeepers engaged in gardening and grounds maintenance; instruct personnel in the proper performance of their duties; personally participate in grounds maintenance activities; maintain and repair irrigation systems; submit reports on activities and problems. Responsibilities:
• Under direction, oversees a crew of groundskeepers in lawn care, soil treatment and preparation, plant disease and pest control; oversees and assists crew in all phases of gardening work.
• Personally performs planting, cultivating, watering, spraying and propagation of flowers, shrubs and trees.
• Assigns duties and instructs crew in work methods and safe practices.
• Inspects completed work.
• Overhauls and maintains irrigation system including clocks, valves, heads and lines.
• Assists in planning areas to be developed and landscaped.
• Mixes different types of soils and composts for shrub beds and grass.
• Oversees the marking and cleaning of athletic fields.
• Operates services and makes minor repairs on equipment used in planting and grounds-maintenance, including forklift.
• Performs related work as required
Minimum Qualifications:
EXPERIENCE: One year of lead experience in grounds keeping or two years in broad grounds keeping experience.
Promotional: One year of experience in Los Rios Community College Distsrict as a groundskeeper. (Promotional applies to regular current Classified employees working with the Los Rios CCD.)
EDUCATION: Completion of courses in use of herbicides and insecticides leading to certificate or qualify for certificate within six months of hire. Courses in groundskeeping and horticulture desirable. Completion of course necessary to obtain forklift operator certificate or qualify for certificate by taking course within 6 months of hire.

(Experience Requirement: One year of experience is equal to 12 months of experience at a maximum of 40 hours per week. Applicable part-time experience will be converted to the full-time equivalent for purposes of meeting the experience requirement. Education Requirement: 12 units are equal to six months of education; 24 units are equal to one year of education.)

* TRANSCRIPTS:
- Individuals who have completed college or university course work at an institution in a country other than the United States must obtain a complete evaluation of foreign transcripts, degrees and other relevant documents. A foreign transcript evaluation is required any time foreign course work is used to meet minimum qualifications even if the foreign transcript has been accepted by a college or university in the United States.
- Graduate advising documents and grade reports will not be accepted as unofficial transcripts.
- It is the responsibility of Los Rios Community College District employees to provide transcripts for the application process, if required by position.
Special Requirements:
Possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License.
Within six months obtain pesticide certification as a California Commercial Applicator with B and C option. After six month of hire, must maintain a valid pesticide certification as a California Commercial Applicator with B and C option.
Within six months of hire obtain a forklift operator certificate. After six months of hire, must maintain a valid forklift operator certificate.
Any offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a medical evaluation.

All Positions: Offers of employment are contingent upon the successful clearance from a criminal background check, freedom from tuberculosis, and proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States prior to the first day of work. The District may select additional qualified candidates should unexpected vacancies or needs occur during this recruitment/selection process.
