DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: This position carries the responsibility for the administration and supervision of the school library media center program. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans and implements a program for the evaluation, selection, acquisition, and arrangement of materials and equipment for maximum use. Supervises the organization and ensures the accessibility of the collection of print and non-print media through cataloging, classification, and processing of the materials. Develops a climate that encourages students and teachers to make optimum use of the school library media center and its resources. Plans cooperatively with faculty members to coordinate materials and library activities with curriculum programs, units, and textbooks. Assists curriculum committees in selection of appropriate materials for resource units and curriculum guides. Instructs students in research techniques and learning skills. Guides users in reading, listening, and viewing. Keeps accurate records of amounts spent in library media center budget accounts. Develops, proposes, and justifies budget requests for the school library media program. Participates in the selection and evaluation of personnel for the school library media program. Provides staff development programs for teachers in the evaluation, selection, production, and use of print and non-print materials and equipment in implementing curriculum. Supervises the organization and maintenance of the school’s textbook collection. Other duties as assigned. CREDENTIAL: Valid California teaching credential with a specialization in Librarianship. EDUCATION: Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Library Science. Course work in audio-visual education or instructional technology. EXPERIENCE: T hree years of successful teaching or school library experience desirable. Preferably with a multi-ethnic student population. PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to work well with people, skills in organization, ability to supervise, interest toward innovation, outgoing and optimistic temperament. SUPERVISION: Responsible to: Principal (or appropriate school administrator). Responsible for: Assigned certificated, classified, and/or student staff.

- Valid California Teacher Librarian Services Credential OR - Valid California Teaching Credential AND willingness to complete the necessary requirements to obtain a Valid California Teacher Librarian Services Credential. (Employment will be contingent upon proof of starting the steps to obtain the Librarian Services Credential.) - Bachelor's/Master's Degree in Library Science. - Course work in audio-visual education or instructional technology. - Three years of successful teaching or school library experience desirable. Preferably with a multi-ethnic student population.

Attached credential copy must include DETAILED credential information including the document number, authorization code, authorization description, issue date and expiration date. Such copies can be obtained using the link provided to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing website through the “Secured Search” option. “SUITABLE FOR FRAMING” VERSIONS AND EXPIRED COPIES OF YOUR CREDENTIAL WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
